Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as onsite. this means the successful candidate to report to the GM office full time.

The Role:

Counsel - Special Investigations, Legal and Compliance will perform investigations of alleged violations of law and/or GM policy (e.g., fraud, IP theft, embezzlement, conflicts of interest, collusion, kickbacks, bribery, FCPA violations and records falsification) or other projects at the request of management. The role also provides counsel on a broad range of compliance matters and issues including ABAC matters, export compliance, and be responsible to identify, develop and execute innovative and impactful compliance messages and trainings to continue to build compliance culture across organizations, as well as counsel on various legal matters for GM in Egypt and North Africa .

What You'll Do:

Develop investigative plans and investigate allegations of misconduct

Execute and document work in accordance with professional standards

Communicate investigation results clearly and timely to all constituencies

Work cross functionally with Audit, Security, HR, and other constituencies

Maintain technical competency and understand the business

Promote teamwork and supporting the overall objectives of Legal department

Experience with anti-bribery and anti-corruption requirements of FCPA and under Egyptian law, as well as export compliance laws, and key compliance areas such as conflict of interest

Sound understanding of key relevant legal principles and current legislation in Egypt and the region

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualification)

Law degree from an accredited college or university with license to practice in Egypt

Residence Requirement: Egypt. If not currently living in Egypt, ability to relocate.

Bilingual (English and Arabic) - required

Investigation Related:

5 - 10 years of relevant legal experience at a major law firm or in-house with a focus on employment law or compliance, and/or prior prosecutorial experience

Perform investigations of alleged fraud and/or misconduct at the direction of SI Leadership.

Be “self-starting” and demonstrate strong leadership skills, including people management

Identify and develop sources of information relative to the subject of the investigation

Conduct effective informational and interrogatory interviews

Evaluate systems of internal control and related procedures

Recommend corrections/enhancements to control deficiencies noted during investigations

Strong ability to maintain open, honest, and timely communication with personnel involved in investigations/projects; demonstrate high level verbal and written communication skills

Demonstrated excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills and confidence dealing with senior management concerning delicate or difficult issues

Exceptional client service skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding relationships

Ability to address unusual and/or difficult problems with analytical ability and problem solving techniques

Ability to quickly adapt to changes, different roles, or environments

Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information is maintained

Ability to travel domestically and internationally, occasionally with minimal advance notice

Assist development of fraud awareness training, and the GM’s Fraud Risk Assessment process

Compliance Related:

As a member of the Company’s compliance team, help build and maintain an effective compliance program

Work cross-functionally to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations as well as the Company’s internal policies

Support and coordinate development and delivery of employee compliance training programs and policies, organizing leadership integrity messages are issued from the GM leadership.

Managing detailed due diligence reviews of proposed business partners

Leading evaluation of business proposals and current business activities to ensure appropriate compliance profile of key relationships.

Leading compliance related audit and monitoring activities, and addressing issues as they arise, to support the optimal implementation of audit action plans. In addition, the compliance counsel will support monitoring of the business, as appropriate, in terms of regular business activities within the purview of GM’s contractual arrangements with key partners.

Legal related:

Detailed and comprehensive knowledge of Egyptian Laws.

Ability to readily understand, at high level, technology and issues associated with various aspects of GM operations.

People Related:

Be “self-starting”, independent and demonstrate strong leadership skills

Fast learner, takes accountability for carrying projects and matters through to completion, and able to build relationships within Compliance/Legal teams and with the business quickly and effectively to be very approachable and valued for providing timely and pragmatic advice and solutions.

Maintain open, honest, and timely communication with personnel involved in investigations/projects; demonstrate high level verbal and written communication skills

Strategy Related:

Continually assess strategies for current and future investigations, and innovative initiatives to maximize compliance awareness across organization, identify real benefits of efforts and recognize business impact on cost/budget

Develop a strong understanding of GM operations worldwide, particularly in Egypt and the Middle East, to include cultural understanding

Recommend changes in investigative process to improve efficiency/ effectiveness while maintaining the highest quality standards
