What You'll Do:

ODH's Bureau of Infectious Diseases (BID) seeks an experienced, goal-driven public health manager passionate about process improvement and modernization. This role will oversee BID's General Infectious Disease Epidemiology section: Tuberculosis Control, Healthcare-Associated Infections/Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR), the Outbreak Response & Bioterrorism Investigation Team (ORBIT), and Vaccine-Preventable Disease Epidemiology. This position will also supervise cross-program supports - including data entry and analytics staff engaged in data modernization efforts - and manage the Infectious Disease On-Call (IDOC) rotation, training and scheduling staff to ensure an optimal Class A disease response.

Primary Job Duties:

Plans, directs, organizes and manages all administrative aspects pertaining to general infectious disease epidemiology:

Develops statewide policies and procedures.

Assists in preparation of grant proposals (e.g., ELC, PHEP, TB) and monitors program budgets.

Reviews section policies and establishes procedures (e.g., data release, data security/confidentiality, staff management and development).

Builds/maintains liaisons between BID program areas, ODH bureaus, other state agencies, and federal agencies (CDC, FBI, FDA).

Coordinates with public health department staff, healthcare providers and others to obtain investigation/surveillance information and share findings.

Supervises junior managers as well as front-line staff.

Manages ODH Infectious Disease On-Call, including training/scheduling staff and serving in rotation.

Unusual working conditions: Requires travel; may be away from home and normal work site up to 30 days during emergencies; may be exposed to contagious and communicable diseases and toxic or hazardous chemicals.

Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm (Flexible Schedule). This is an exempt hourly position, with a pay range of 15 on the E1 Exempt Pay Range Schedule.

Position Qualifications

Completion of graduate core program in public health or preventive medicine; 24 mos. exp. in epidemiology investigation with local or federal health agency which included 12 mos. exp. in either supervisory principles/techniques or performing duties comparable with duties of Epidemiology Investigation Supervisor, 65765; 1 course in budgeting or 3 mos. exp. in preparing budgets for operational unit.

OR

6 mos. exp. as Epidemiology Investigation Supervisor, 65765.

OR

Alternative, equivalent evidence of the Minimum Class Qualifications noted above.
