We are seeking an experienced Lactation Consultant/Childbirth Educator to join our dedicated maternal-child health team. This role provides personalized breastfeeding support, delivers childbirth education classes, and works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and allied health staff to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
The RN, IBCLC & Childbirth Educator is a dual-role nursing professional who provides care and education to both inpatient and outpatient obstetric patients, in alignment with Mississippi Medicaid maternity programs, Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) standards, AWHONN guidelines, and DNV accreditation requirements. This position supports perinatal patients through prenatal education, labor and delivery education, postpartum breastfeeding support, and ongoing care coordination to improve maternal and infant health outcomes in the Mississippi Delta region.

Key Responsibilities:
Provide inpatient and outpatient lactation consultation in accordance with BFHI and IBCLC standards
Facilitate childbirth and prenatal education classes for patients, including those covered by Mississippi Medicaid
Educate expectant families about labor, birth, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, and newborn care
Deliver nursing care to obstetric patients within scope of practice and AWHONN standards
Support quality improvement initiatives aligned with DNV, Medicaid, and BFHI benchmarks
Collaborate with case managers, physicians, nurses, and community programs to ensure continuity of care
Maintain up-to-date documentation and records for audits, program compliance, and patient care
Serve as a resource and mentor to nursing and ancillary staff on lactation and perinatal education topics
Promote exclusive breastfeeding and safe newborn practices through family-centered care
Qualifications:
Education: Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
Licensure/Certifications:
Current Mississippi RN or Compact License in good standing.
International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) – Required
Certified Childbirth Educator (e.g., ICEA, Lamaze, or equivalent), or commitment to obtain within 6 months of hire
Current BLS certification – Required
Current NRP certification – Required within 6 months of hire
Experience:
Minimum two (2) years of recent experience in perinatal nursing, maternal-child health, or lactation support.
Experience working in both inpatient and outpatient care settings preferred.
Experience with Medicaid populations and community outreach preferred.
