Transit Driver
The City of Wilmington, Ohio, is seeking a part-time Transit Driver within the Wilmington Transit System. The Transit Driver operates a passenger coach on a demand responsive route to transport people to and from their destination on time, safely and courteously. Drivers will collect ride fares and assist passengers with personal carry-on items, wheelchairs, bicycles, etc.
This position is a safety-sensitive position requiring the inspection and maintenance of all vehicles on a regular basis to ensure the safe and lawful operation of the system fleet. Performance of these duties must be conducted in compliance with all applicable DOT, federal, state, local, and system regulations and policies, including U.S. DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations.
Essential Job Functions
Operate passenger coach on a demand responsive route.
Pre-inspect coach to detect and report safety or maintenance problems.
Observe time schedules along the specified route while picking up and dropping off passengers.
Ensures receipt of proper ride fare.
Observe safe operating practices at all times.
Operate wheelchair lift as needed.
Answer passenger questions and requests, furnish accurate information and appropriately deal with disorderly or unruly passengers.
Report mechanical defects, accidents, road hazards, personal or passenger injuries to dispatch or supervisor
Communicate with dispatchers and other drivers over a radio as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Required Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years of age.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must possess an Ohio Driver's License and maintain insurability (no more than 4 points on driving report).
Must be able to pass a pre-employment DOT Physical & Drug Screen.
The starting base salary will be consistent with the City's approved pay plan; this position's starting salary is $16.49 per hour; hourly rate increases to $18.13 with the 10% shift differential beginning at 6 PM.
