Senior Underwriter & Team Leader - Marine Cargo Insurance

A leading global Marine Cargo insurer is seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter & Team Leader to join its high-performing team based in Maidstone, Kent.

This is a rare opportunity to step into a hybrid role combining technical underwriting leadership with team management responsibilities, within a company known for its strength in the Cargo, Freight and Engineering insurance markets.

The Role

Underwriting Responsibilities:

Own and pro activelymanage a portfolio of large and complex Cargo&Freight risks.

Develop strong trading relationships with key intermediaries and clients.

Deliver quick and effective underwriting decisions in line with trading strategy and risk appetiteoperating with a solutionsfocussed approach.

Support and develop less experienced underwriters with technical guidance and mentorshipto build confidence and trading ability.

Play a pivotal role in creating and shaping development plans for the product and the overall market proposition.

Team Leadership & Operations:

Lead and managing the day to day running of a team of Marine professionals providing guidance and support to deliver exceptional service to customers.

Be the first point of contact for Underwriting referrals and customer engagement utilising effective delegation to ensure the smooth running of the operation.

Manage the team to deliver strong performances whilst creating a great place to work.

Implement new initiatives and operational improvements.

What You'll Bring

Proven Senior Level experience in Cargoand Freight underwriting.

Strong technical knowledge and understanding of trading principles.

Excellent Relationshipmanagement skills and familiarity with the UK broker marketand an extensive network of industry contacts.

Supervisory or mentoring experience (or a clear appetite to step into this).

Progress towards Dip CII / ACII preferred.
