Position Overview:
Electra.aero, a next-gen aerospace technology company, seeks a dynamic and energetic Staff Design Engineer - Propulsion. This role will conduct design, analysis, test, and integration of propulsion systems on Electra's 9-passenger hybrid electric eSTOL (electric short takeoff and landing) aircraft. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in 3D design, analysis, and aircraft integration within a fast-paced, innovative environment.
We are seeking a candidate with the following key experience and skills:
Complete designs for mechanical integration of propulsion systems utilizing NX CAD modeling and analysis tools
Working with suppliers as necessary to mechanically integrate components into the airframe
Knowledge of and experience working with and designing to FAA Part 23 structural requirements and derived ASTM standards
Managing physical interfaces between propulsion components and the airframe
Complete trade studies on alternative designs to meet requirements and objective functions
Performing modeling, analysis and simulation (eg static and dynamic stress analysis) to verify integrated propulsion components meet performance and safety requirements
Preparing and presenting at gated design reviews to demonstrate the adequacy of the design
Communicating information about propulsion integration design, requirements, and performance between the design team, management, customer, subcontractors, and vendors
Required Education and Experience:
Minimum of 2+ years of experience in mechanical engineering on air vehicles with bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (or related STEM discipline).
Required Skills:
Experience in aerospace component design
Understanding of manufacturing methods (machining, sheet metal, composites, 3D printing, injection molding, composite lamination, etc)
High competence with, and fluid use of, engineering first principles
A strong work ethic and ability to independently meet and lead the areas described by the responsibilities and essential functions
Excellent organization and communication skills
Other duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with mechanical system design and integration for certification to part 23 or 25 standards
Demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), certification procedures (especially Part 23), and relevant industry standards.
Experience in Siemens NX CAD Software and Teamcenter PLM Software
Competency in engineering analysis, including structural, thermal, multi-body dynamics, and electrical
US Person (Citizen or Green Card) Preferred
Location:
Headquarters in Manassas, VA. To encourage close collaboration this position is 4-5 days in the office, with some virtual work allowed
Salary:
Electra's salary range for this position is: $90,000.00 - 130,000.00 Our salary ranges reflect the minimum and maximum range for the Company level overall across all locations & projects and does not necessarily reflect the budgeted amount for this position. Individual pay is based on additional factors, including project budgets, job-related skills, experience, relevant education and/or training, role, level, location, and project.

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a warehouse/aviation and office environment, which requires proper safety precautions. Work may require some physical effort in handling light materials, boxes, power tools, prototypes, and different materials or equipment. Due to the nature of our business and projects, some fieldwork may be required, working in both indoor and outdoor conditions. You may need to lift up to 50 lbs.
