Job Summary:
An electronic assembler follows prescribed procedures to perform repetitive assembly of electronic and electro-mechanical components in short-run and volume production. Each assembler is expected to exhibit a professional demeanor, efficient work habits and adherence to all the provisions detailed in the employee handbook and the following sections.
General description of duties:
Assembling consists of constructing and joining electronic components, printed circuit boards, assemblies, subassemblies, products or systems. Tasks involve reading work orders, verifying kit contents against parts lists, following production drawings, photographs or sample assemblies and following English language verbal instructions regarding assembly procedures, techniques and duties to be performed. Parts must be aligned in a specific relationship to each other using jigs, fixtures and other holding devices. Parts may be secured by crimps, stakes, screws, bolts, rivets, solder, cements or similar operations using hand tools, power tools or pneumatic tools. Component leads and wires must be neatly affixed to printed circuit boards. Connections and interconnections must be accomplished using terminals, connectors or contacts using soldering or bonding techniques. Assemblies and subassemblies must be mounted in product chassis, enclosures or panels using associated hardware such as knobs, switches, screws and rivets. Assembly steps may include potting, sanding, de-panelizing printed circuit boards, cleaning, epoxy bonding, curing, color-coding and serializing. Assembler may tend machines that press, shape, affix, trim or wind component parts. Adjusting or trimming materials to achieve specified electrical or mechanical characteristics is required. Operation of precision measuring devices and magnification instruments may be used to insure that assemblies meet production specifications. Clean-up of the work and associated areas is required, with the assembler's immediate work area kept clean and free of obstructions and hazards. Assembler may be assigned other duties and tasks within the company as determined and designated by management.
Requirements
Essential qualifications:
Basic computer skills sufficient to open and navigate network based assembly instructions
Follow sequential assembly instructions in the form of visual drawings, written instructions in English, photographs or mechanical samples without the assistance of others
Give and receive effective written and verbal communications with technical staff and supervisory personnel in the English language
Identify standard electronic components including transformers, resistors, capacitors, transistors, connectors, terminal blocks, integrated circuits, pins, jumpers, wires
Produce repetitive hand soldered joints with proper flow using all solder types
Manual dexterity and accurate vision
Operate hand tools, electric tools and pneumatic tools
Set up workstation for an assembly process and move materials to and from the workstation without assistance from others
Understand, remember and follow safety instructions and practices
Maintain constant focus on assembly tasks without interfering with other staff members
Inspect one's own work to assure error-free results
All physical requirements designated Constant in the Work Area requirements section
Must work regular and predictable schedule as assigned Education and experience:
High School Diploma/GED
Minimum 2 years experience in a production environment, or equivalent Quality assessment:
The assembler's work product is assessed regularly or from time-to-time by measuring the time required to complete defined assembly tasks and procedures. The measurement standards may include measurements compared with time standards of other present or prior assembly staff members assigned like tasks and procedures, and time standards determined by engineering or management for productivity and profitability. Each assembly is expected to be completed error-free and any re-work performed on a kit will be measured and the time required to re-work the kit will be assessed to the originally assigned assembler.
Work Area objectives:
Meet or exceed industry standards for highest commercial quality of soldering and assembly
Maintain and improve high efficiency standards for production time to quality ratio
Assemble every kit with zero errors without re-work
Promote a safe, efficient and professional work environment in the work area Efficiency and error-free assembly are requirements of the assembly work area for competitive business reasons. Achievement of these standards requires a quiet work environment free from non-work related conversation or any other intentional aural or visual interference with the concentration of other workers.
Work Area standards:
Productivity
Job Knowledge: Diversity of kits built within standard times (may be based on graded kit type)
Accuracy: Percentage of kits requiring rework (from ERP report)
Quantity: Percentage of time standard for all kits built (or a representative random sampling)
Completion rate: Percentage of products completed to stock vs. all products completed to stock
Recommendations: Number of suggestions made to improve process efficiency that are recorded on forms and adopted in practice
Initiative: Successful completion of cross-training in another work area
Observing a need outside employee's usual duties and volunteering to assist Work Habits
Accuracy: Neat and accurate completion of paperwork
Flexibility: Willingness to accept other job assignments:
Number of times asked
Number of times performed Conduct
Number of documented workplace issues, if any Communication:
Instances of not following the established communication protocol
Number of valid errors reported in assembly/process documentation Cooperation: Documented examples of cooperation or lack of cooperation with others
Direction: Documented examples of response or lack of response to direction
Attendance: Number of absences and tardies compared to handbook standard
Responsibility
Safety: Documented instances of employee not following an established safety standard
