The Opportunity
We are currently looking to a Senior Operations Manager in our Canada Gas Operations group based in Winnipeg, MB. Reporting to the Director, Mainline & TQM Operations, the successful candidate will take on accountability for a critical commercial and operational flow-path within Canada Gas Operations (CGO).
This role will lead a team of Area, Pipeline, and Corrosion managers in providing safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-efficient operations and maintenance across Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Northwest Ontario. This role will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Prairies flow-path, including establishing and executing against a safe and effective annual maintenance workplan for their flow-path, including development of both technical and behaviour skills for direct reports and their front-line employees. This role will also support various strategic initiatives within Canada Gas Operations, including operationalizing process safety, and creating a stewardship and governance framework for operational controls and safeguards. This opportunity will also be heavily involved with progressing other strategic organizational studies and initiatives on behalf of CGO.
We are seeking an individual with strong leadership capabilities and operational knowledge that is a strong strategic and critical thinker, and capable of managing multiple stakeholder expectations in a very dynamic environment. The individual will be expected to influence and collaborate with several key stakeholders beyond Canada Gas (Commercial, Safety & Technical Services, other Business Units). This is a key role in in helping Canada Gas Operations, and TC Energy deliver its vision of zero harm and optimizing performance of its assets.
What you’ll do
Lead a team of managers in safe, effective work prioritization and execution for a commercially critical flow-path.
Establish an effective operational budget for the flow-path, and manage the necessary performance metrics to execute the annual maintenance program.
Identify & utilize the different operational levers available to deal with changes or emergencies, considering impacts to safety & operational performance.
Maintain an effective leadership presence within CGO field locations, ensuring consistency of safety and operational practices.
Actively engage with Commercial partners in identifying, understanding, communicating and extracting value from commercial opportunities on the Mainline
Lead and steward the implementation of key strategic operational initiatives and drive operational excellence in Canada Gas Operations
Coach and mentor front line field leadership on operational safety, performance, and effectiveness
Minimum Qualifications
Post-Secondary education in a related field
15 years of progressive experience in operations, projects and/or process safety within oil and gas industry (upstream, midstream, downstream), including remote field-level work
Strong leadership skills with a superior ability to develop multifunctional teams
Superior written and oral communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, people management skills and financial acumen
Outstanding negotiation and dispute resolutions skills; able to drive optimal outcome between stakeholders with differing opinions and priorities
Preferred Qualifications
5+ years of progressive, formal leadership experience across multiple discipline areas
Demonstrated ability to network and influence others
Strong understanding of Human and Organizational Performance principles, and how to apply to safety and operational excellence
Strong understanding of ICS framework, including experience applying in an emergency response
This position requires candidates to:
Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training (estimated up 25% of work schedule)
