Scrubs provided and laundered at no cost to the employee

Under supervision of the Central Services Supervisor, provide support for the VMTH in receiving, storing and delivering freight, all laundry functions, operational needs for the oxygen systems and medical gas cylinders, and biohazard waste. Provide assistance to VMTH units performing minor repairs, moving furniture, and general maintenance.

Experience using freight receiving and distribution systems.

Skills to recognize and handle difficult unpleasant situations and/or individuals.

Computer skills to input and retrieve data.

Skills to maintain a system of dispensing, recharging and inventory maintenance.

Organizational and time management skills to prioritize assignments and successfully complete them in accordance to deadlines.

Skills to maintain confidentiality of sensitive issues/matters; ability to exercise discretion in dealing with controversial or potentially sensitive topics.

Mechanical skills to perform simple repairs and maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing hospital oxygen systems and medical grade gas cylinders.

Knowledge of principles of purchasing, acquisition and inventory control.

Knowledge of handling and transporting disposable biological and oncology waste.

Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with a diverse group of people including clients, clinicians, students and staff.

Key Responsibilities

50% - Receiving and Distribution of Incoming Freight

20% - Coordination of Laundry Operation

10% - Provide Dispensing and Distribution Functions for Veterinary Medical and Surgical Supplies in the Central Service Unit at the VMTH

10% - Management of VMTH Biohazard and Chemo Wastes System

10% - Maintenance of House Oxygen System and Compressed Medical Gas Cylinders

Department Overview

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the apply by date.

Work Environment
