Assistant Professor Of AI In The Visual Arts
We seek a tenure-track assistant professor who is an artist whose research engages emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in relation to multidisciplinary practices in the visual arts. In this moment when AI is often framed as being a replacement for artists, this position will explore and leverage AI as one of many tools in the complex workflows contemporary artists utilize in creating art. Combining a critical perspective on these new technologies with the desire to challenge the surrounding narratives contributes to the Department's focus on teaching students to build ethical and adaptive practices for a lifetime of artmaking in a quickly changing world. Of particular focus are artists whose practices result in physical and embodied mediums, bridging into areas such as painting, sculpture, glass, printmaking and more. We also are especially interested in artists whose practices include collaborative approaches.
This position would be a 50/50 joint appointment at the Assistant Professor level, shared between the Department of Art and the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) with the Department of Art as the tenure home.
