TOTAL PUBLIC MEMBERS: 5

APPOINTMENT TYPE: Appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of Council

TERM LENGTH (YEARS): 3

RESIDENCY: District residency required, with strong preference for representation from all 8 wards

PAID BOARD: No (all roles are voluntary)

DESCRIPTIONThe Board shall regulate the practice of public accountants and certified public accountants.

COMMISSION MEMBERSHIPThe Board shall consist of the following 5 members:

4 certified public accountants; and

1 consumer member. QUALIFICATIONS

Professional members shall be licensed in the District and, at the time of their appointments, have been engaged in their practice for a period of not less than 3 years.

Consumer Members shall:

Be at least 18 years of age;

Not be a practitioner of a profession or occupation supervised by that board, or in training to become one;

Not have a household member who is a practitioner of a profession or occupation supervised by that board, or in training to become one; and

Not own, operate, or be employed in or have a household member who owns, operates, or is employed in a business which has as its primary purpose the sale of goods or services to practitioners of a profession or occupation supervised by that board.

TIME COMMITMENTThe Board of Accountancy meets every other month.
