Job Title: Career Advisor

Department: Workforce Development & Career Services

Reports to: AVP of Career Services

Position Supervised: N/A

Employment Class: Full Time/Regular/ Exempt

Workdays: Monday through Friday

Customary Hours: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (*Hours are extended when workload is increased.)

Position Summary:

The Career Advisor will aid in outreach and marketing to ensure underemployed and unemployed job seekers are aware of services and to re-engage those that are currently not participating in the workforce. They will support innovative tech-enabled tools such as assessments that help job seekers understand their skills and aptitude for different jobs and pathways, and other tech-tools such as support service navigation. Career advisors gain employer commitments to interview and/or hire reskilled workers, support furloughed/released workers, and develop internship/apprenticeships programs to support job seekers to self-sufficiency.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assists individuals with identifying appropriate resources to address employment needs.

Conducts individual aptitude and needs assessments for CUL program eligibility, appropriateness, and barrier evaluation.

Reviews employment opportunities and to match job seekers appropriately based on existing skills and talents and/or the opportunity to improve on existing skill and talents in on demand careers.

Facilitates Career Services Presentation for agency programs for individuals looking for assistance in reentering the job market.

Establish connections with employers, training providers, and tools through multiple forums such as employer/coach sessions and career fairs or virtual career fairs ("VCFs" or individually a "VCF ").

Work directly with area strategic partners and CUL services to aid in barrier removal and additional opportunities.

Provide support for reskilling through identified providers with programs that align to in-demand skills and occupations and the multitude of funding programs available for the under/unemployed job seeker.

Conduct workforce readiness presentations regarding employment access such as how to complete an employment application and partnering with area subject matter experts to increase individuals' skills and talents.

Plan and execute Career Fairs with assistance of OMJ partners, community partners or funders.

Assist clients with accessing appropriate interview attire.

Case management to ensure and support accurate reporting.

Create innovative ways to assist job seekers seeking and obtaining stable work.

Build relationships with area businesses to assist in direct job placement.

Enters all participants' information into data tracking systems, including case notes.

Submits weekly activity reports reflecting presentations, community events, clients served and other activities.

Maintains the most up-to-date information on clients.

Ensures documentation and files are in an audit-ready in compliance with laws, regulations, and established policies and procedures.

Other duties as assigned. Experience and Skills

Education and Experience:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in human services, business, or related field

May substitute years of experience for education

Willingness and ability to obtain other certifications as necessary Experience:

3-5 years of experience in sales and/or job placement or related field is preferred

Working knowledge of the employment and recruiting process, including experience with developing professional relationships with businesses and community-based organizations.

An understanding of major barriers to successful employment is required. Required Skills and Abilities:

Must be able to work independently or as a team Technology and Compliance:

Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (MS Suite, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, etc.)

Experience with videoconferencing systems (e.g., Webex, Zoom, Teams, etc.) Time Management and Organization:

Ensures accuracy, efficiency, and consistency across all tasks

Works independently with the ability to handle multiple tasks

Manages workload effectively and delivers results in a timely manner Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and see.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to low.

The employee is required to occasionally travel to different work sites and community events as needed.
