Position Overview

The UI/UX Design Consultant will be directly responsible for designing a modern, intuitive, and user-centered interface for ODPS applications. This role requires collaborating with business users, IT supervisors, project managers, and development teams in an agile environment to translate complex business processes into clear and effective digital experiences.

The consultant will lead design initiatives across the product lifecycle—including discovery, research, prototyping, and delivery—while ensuring compliance with ODPS standards, N-tier architecture, and security requirements. Candidates must demonstrate prior experience through a portfolio of relevant UI/UX work.

Key Responsibilities

Partner with stakeholders, business users, and engineering teams to gather detailed UI/UX requirements.

Design wireframes, interactive prototypes, and user-friendly interfaces for complex business processes.

Conduct user research, usability testing, and analysis to validate design decisions.

Develop and maintain a Design System Library for component reuse and brand consistency.

Collaborate with project managers, developers, and business analysts to brainstorm and deliver design solutions.

Ensure seamless UI/UX handoff to development teams with proper documentation and prototypes.

Work closely with backend developers to ensure smooth front-end and backend integration.

Actively participate in agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog grooming, stand-ups, retrospectives).

Ensure compliance with best practices in accessibility, security, and responsive design.

Proactively identify UX pain points and drive improvements into the product roadmap.

Provide technical guidance and mentoring to design and development staff.

Communicate design concepts effectively to technical and non-technical audiences; facilitate workshops and design discussions to build consensus.

Lead and manage multiple design initiatives, balancing competing priorities and aligning with product/engineering timelines.

Onsite in Columbus, Ohio

Required Qualifications

Proven UI/UX design experience with a strong portfolio demonstrating work on enterprise-level or complex applications.

Expertise in prototyping and design software (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision, Axure, or equivalent).

Demonstrated experience researching, designing, and developing interfaces in line with N-tier architectural standards.

Strong understanding of user-centered design principles, information architecture, and usability testing methods.

Experience creating and managing a scalable Design System.

Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across functions.

Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with proven ability to prioritize requirements effectively.

Ability to work independently as well as in a team with shifting priorities and deadlines.

Strong facilitation skills with experience leading design workshops and stakeholder presentations.

Must be fluent in English, with clear written and verbal communication.

Ability to provide technical guidance and mentoring to team members.

Additional Requirements

Candidates must submit a portfolio/sample designs during interviews.

Background check to be conducted by ODPS as part of the onboarding process.

The Offeror must pre-screen candidates to ensure required skills and documented experience.

Preferred Experience

Prior experience working in government or highly regulated industries.

Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG, Section 508, etc.).

Knowledge of agile project management frameworks (Scrum, SAFe).
