Open Door is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Controller to lead and manage financial operations and department staff and implement financial strategies. The Senior Controller responsibility is to provide day-to-day management of the finance, accounting, purchasing and revenue function, billing and payroll departments and their teams. Partners with lead department executives and leaders of multiple sites to deliver their goals. Works with CFO on budgets, grants, and the development of strategic plans. This position is located in our headquarters in Tarrytown, NY and has multiple direct reports.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Operations
Lead and manage all financial functions, including accounting, payroll, revenue analysis, accounts receivable, accounts payable, budgets, fixed assets, cash management, financial planning, banking relationships, purchasing, investments, general ledger, and required reporting
Steward the development and finalization of operating, foundation, capital, and grant budgets
Work with Controller to ensure monthly financial and operational reports are prepared on time and reviewed with CFO, including Income and Expense, Balance Sheet, Cashflow Analysis and Departmental Expense Reports and ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP/IFRS)
Review and correct analyses of regular monthly reports with Controller and review them with CFO, focusing on variance analysis, forecasting future financial performance, recommendations for correction, and, where appropriate, solutions to prevent recurrence
Coordinate documentation of financial activities and preparation of annual audits by independent Auditor, in addition to documenting business and financial plans for funding agencies
Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets and ensure data integrity
Prepare the financial modeling and development of timely and accurate project plans for new grants, sites, and initiatives for review with CFO
Coordinate budgets for all new ventures and future programs
Stay updated on financial regulations and tax laws
Oversee Cash Management including Projections, follow up on AIR Collections and Cash Disbursements
Partner with executive leadership on financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting
Provide strategic insights and recommendations to support growth and profitability
Team Leadership
Leverage strengths of the current finance team members, help clarify their roles and responsibilities, develop and implement training programs in to order to maximize and reach outstanding individual, departmental and organization goals
Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels at the department; create and promote a positive work environment anchored in accountability
Experienced in driving departmental success through performance management and annual at organizational, departmental, and individual levels
Skilled and adaptable, with a focus on fostering teamwork and a strong sense of community
Ensuring the delegation of responsibility is conducted with clarity, consistency and fairness
Oversee daily management of monthly deliverables in an organized and efficient manner
Provide regular developmental and corrective feedback to staff including mid-year and annual performance evaluations
Acting as the primary report to the CFO, work closely to establish, implement and monitor annual benchmarks that align with Open Door's vision and business goals
Oversees training and development of staff to improve quality and efficient work practices
Demonstrated expertise in recruiting, developing, and retaining staff
Consistently meeting quality and accuracy standards as well as deadlines
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors’ Degree; Masters' degree in Finance or MBA with specialization in Finance is highly preferred
12-15+ years in finance, accounting, and related fields with increasing scope of responsibility, predominantly in health care
8-10+ years leading a department and with minimally 5+ direct reports
5+ years of healthcare finance experience in particular Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance experience
CPA, Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) or Fellow of HFMA (FHFMA)
Significant experience in financial modeling and budgeting
Highly experienced and successful coaching and mentoring direct reports focused on delivering measurable goals
Exceptionally strong financial analysis and problem-solving skills
Strong understanding of financial systems; proficiency with various financial reporting tools
Proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Access)
Responsive and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high accountability health care environment
Outcome focused; able to understand current and changing organizational requirements and provide effective solutions
Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Proven ability to balance detail orientation with strategic thinking
