Hampden-Sydney College is accepting applications for a Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement.

Reporting to the Vice President of College Advancement, the Director of Alumni and Parent Engagement (the Director) supports the mission of the College by developing, implementing, and maintaining a metrics-based alumni and parent programs to support the mission of the Advancement Division and the College.

The Director provides strategic oversight for the Alumni and Parent Engagement office, as well as guidance and leadership to its personnel, currently consisting of three team members.

With a $250M capital campaign on the horizon, the Director will play a critical role in helping to develop and strengthen mutually beneficial ties between the College and its constituents.

Duties STRATEGIC PLANNING, ASSESSMENT, AND ACCOUNTABILITY * Sets the strategic vision for the department in coordination with VP; leads staff in developing and implementing shared strategic priorities.

* Ensures fiscal responsibility within approved budgetary limits.

* Regularly measures outcomes of Alumni programs and services and report results.

* With the VP, leads the strategy for the Alumni Board, and oversees day-to-day planning and operations of the Alumni Board, including semi-annual meetings of the Alumni Board.

* Manages the Alumni and Parent Engagement team.

ALUMNI OPERATIONS * Plans, implements, and promotes varied alumni and parent programs that serve diverse constituents in collaboration with colleagues across the entire Advancement Division.

* Guides the development of successful alumni programming such as on-campus events like Homecoming, Reunion, Affinity Programs, as well as alumni events throughout the country, finding ways to engage alumni in meaningful and rewarding ways that deepen their commitment to the College and its students and faculty.

* Develops marketing strategies and resources to engage alumni and parents.

Creates and develops avenues of communication to all College alumni; oversees and coordinates the development and publication of materials for alumni in concert with Office of Communications.

* Creates and manages program to recruit, train, and lead various groups of alumni volunteers to serve the College.

* Oversees efforts to ensure management of alumni records, and collaborates with Advancement colleagues to ensure ongoing alumni and parent data integrity.

* Manages the process of alumni awards and honorary citations.

* Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.

RELATIONSHIP BUILDING AND DEVELOPMENT * Establishes and builds relationships and volunteer structures (regional alumni clubs, affinity groups, reunion committees, etc.) with a wide range of alumni and parents.

* Collaborates closely with development colleagues to increase philanthropic support from alumni.

SUPERVISION * Maintains organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the division's goals and objectives; oversees recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of unit staff.

Qualifications The successful candidate will be a creative, collaborative, and strategic leader with demonstrated experience evaluating and improving programs based on the needs of various constituencies while also inspiring and developing new opportunities for meaningful engagement.

Prior management experience is essential; experience in an educational setting and within an environment similar to the College is preferred.

Bachelor's degree with minimum of 7-10 years of prior experience in alumni or external relations or closely related field, with demonstrated accomplishment in fostering productive relationships with volunteers and/or clients and developing effective programs are required.

Familiarity with Hampden-Sydney College or a similar private institution is strongly preferred.
