CSSD (Central Sterile Supply Department) Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations, quality assurance, and staff management of the CSSD, ensuring the proper sterilization, maintenance, and distribution of medical instruments and supplies in accordance with healthcare standards. Key duties include overseeing sterilization processes, training and supervising staff, managing inventory and equipment, conducting audits, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with infection control and safety regulations. Qualifications typically include prior CSSD experience and strong leadership and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Oversight:
Manage the day-to-day functions of the CSSD, including the decontamination, cleaning, packing, and sterilization of medical instruments and supplies.
Staff Management:
Lead, train, and supervise CSSD staff, ensuring proper work allocation, positive team dynamics, and adherence to protocols.
Quality Control:
Develop, implement, and monitor sterilization protocols and procedures to ensure the highest standards of hygiene and safety.
Equipment Management:
Oversee the maintenance, repair, and testing of sterilization equipment, such as autoclaves, and ensure they are functioning correctly.
Inventory & Supplies:
Maintain an organized inventory of instruments, supplies, and equipment, ensuring timely availability for healthcare professionals.
Compliance & Safety:
Ensure the department complies with relevant health and safety regulations, healthcare standards (e.g., AS5369), and infection control protocols.
Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of all sterilization activities, batching, labeling, and equipment tracking.
Audits & Reporting:
Conduct regular audits and inspections of sterilization processes and equipment to identify and address any issues.
Key Qualifications & Skills
Experience:
Prior experience working in a hospital CSSD or similar healthcare environment is required.
Education & Certification:
A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required, and certification in sterile processing (e.g., CRCST, CBSPD) is often preferred.
