Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University. For 50 years and in over 155 countries, Jhpiego has worked to prevent the needless deaths of women and their families. Jhpiego Corporation has been providing technical support to the Ministries of Health in partner countries across the globe in a variety of technical areas including cervical cancer treatment and prevention, community health, HIV and AIDS, maternal and newborn health, health workforce capacity development family planning, malaria, and IPC/WASH.

The Reaching Impact, Saturation and Epidemic control (RISE) project is a five-year global US Department of State funded project, with a period of performance from Apr. 15, 2019 – Dec. 30, 2027. RISE supports countries to respond to the HIV epidemic and COVID-19 pandemic by providing technical assistance, service delivery, research, and cross-cutting health system innovations. RISE partners with ministries of health, local stakeholders, and non-governmental organizations in more than 25 countries around the world to advance strategic and policy objectives to control the transmission of HIV and COVID-19. Working across the HIV prevention, care, and treatment cascade, RISE bridges country-led efforts to reach the UNAIDS 95-95-95 goals by 2030. To address the COVID-19 pandemic, RISE provides short-term, emergency response aid, alongside longer-term health systems strengthening, to achieve pandemic preparedness. Targeted technical assistance includes strengthening health information systems, human resources for health, supply chain, and health financing.

The RISE project is looking to hire a Communications Officer who will provide cross-cutting communications support across the Organisation. This includes, serving as the primary communications focal person supporting RISE’s global communications priorities and providing communication support to Jhpiego overall Eswatini team.

Responsibilities

Lead the implementation of the project’s overall communication plan and the detailed communications activities for RISE Eswatini, in alignment with the approved project communications strategy

In collaboration with project leadership and technical contributors, support RISE Eswatini team to develop presentations for donors and other external stakeholders on the RISE project, areas of technical expertise, achievements, and other priority content

Support development of RISE Eswatini project deliverables (e.g. fact sheets, technical and programmatic briefers, capacity statements, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual reports)

Support maintenance and availability of RISE project templates (with project appropriate branding) and ensure alignment with Department of State Graphic Standards Manual and Partner Co-Branding Guide, and other relevant USG guidance and regulations

Support RISE country team to develop and implement communication plan, in coordination with the project’s technical leadership, and program management units

Support writing, editing, and/or review of success stories, newsletter articles, blog posts, PowerPoint presentations, or other external communications products

Coordinate with RISE Technical Director to support social media engagement for the project, liaising with relevant Jhpiego and partner social media focal persons to ensure alignment with social media engagement guidelines

Provide guidance to Eswatini team and sub-partners on project Branding and Marking Plan and review and advise on the application of project branding/marking.

Required Qualifications

At least 5+ years of experience coupled with a bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations and Marketing

Strong writing and editing skills

Experience producing various types of online and print material required

Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Prior experience with social media tools and websites

Strong experience with donor requirements, knowledge of PEPFAR, Department of State or other US government funding agencies preferred

Experience with HIV/AIDS and/or COVID response programming preferred

Demonstrated ability to work with both scientific/technical (e.g. technical program briefs) and non-technical (e.g. marketing) materials

High degree of decision-making and problem-solving abilities

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, a high level of organization and ability to balance competing priorities

Self-starting capabilities and comfortable with qualitative and quantitative evaluation

Experience with event design and management abilities as well as attention to detail

Ability to handle budgets and produce within set parameters

Ability to project a professional image and communicate positively and effectively as a representative of Jhpiego, both within The Johns Hopkins University community and external organizations and donors

Proficient in Microsoft Office

Working knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign and Canva

Data visualization and or graphic design skills preferred

Understanding of communications channels

Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills in English

Familiarity with USG donor reporting preferred

Ability and willingness to travel nationally 30% of time
