The Carleton College Economics Department invites applications for two tenure-track assistant professor positions starting September 1, 2026. One position is in Macroeconomics (any subfield); the other is open to any field.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in economics or related field or expected completion by September 1, 2026

Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching

Potential for high-quality scholarship

Interest in engaging an intellectual community that values diverse perspectives

Responsibilities

Teach 5 courses per academic year (1–2 per trimester), including core theory courses

Advise ~15 senior theses (2 courses) every 2–4 years

Pursue scholarly research and publication

Advise students and serve on college committees (second year onwards); participate in faculty governance

Support

Start-up funds, professional development account, technology support

One course release in the first year

One sabbatical term for every 3 years of teaching

Additional sabbatical opportunities (junior faculty given priority)

Support for grant writing and teaching development

We are 10 tenure-track faculty and one administrative assistant. We graduate 30–50 majors annually who pursue advanced degrees and careers in economics, finance, policy, law, and more. The expected starting salary range is $91,000 - $109,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
