TITLE: 2020 2021 Guidance Counselor

QUALIFICATIONS:

A valid certificate as a guidance counselor

Successful teaching experience preferred

A master's degree from an accredited college or university

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL:

To provide a comprehensive counseling program for all children in elementary schools; consult with teachers, parents and staff to enhance the effectiveness in helping students; provide support to other elementary educational programs.

MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Implements the comprehensive elementary guidance program.

Counsels individuals and groups of students toward the development of academic/ educational growth and career plans.

Counsels individuals and small groups of children toward personal/social and emotional growth.

Consults with and trains teachers, parents and staff regarding children's needs.

Refers children and their families to special programs, specialists and community agencies when appropriate.

Participates in, coordinates and conducts activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school.

Participates in the intervention team process or school support team.

Plans and evaluates the counseling program.

Pursues continuous professional growth.

Participates in staff development programs.

Performs other duties as directed.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 days. Salary to be determined by the salary schedule established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.
