Summary: This role is responsible for Profitably underwriting all personal lines preferred lines of business with a focus on risk selection and acceptability, loss prevention and avoidance, proper plan placement and premium assessment. Providing excellent service to both internal and external customers with proven negotiation skills. Maintaining positive agency relationships while assisting in achieving designated loss ratio and growth goals. The candidate must demonstrate analytical skills, communicate effectively, manage time efficiently, have strong decision-making skills, and exhibits proficiency with computer systems.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Review and underwrite all Preferred Lines new business, amendments, and renewal business risks. Evaluate and assess the overall risk with a focus on ensuring proper plan placement and obtaining adequate premium for the exposure.

Adherence to Company underwriting guidelines, procedures and service standards.

Assist in promoting products and services to customers including but not limited to, GrangeLive Chats, Complaint Letters, and Policy Information requests.

Analyze underwriting issues and develop resolution plans. Understand customer business needs and recommend appropriate actions and solutions to maintain and/or restore profitability.

Review property inspections in accordance with Company workflow practices and standards.

Effectively identifies and addresses exposures and controls, evaluates loss activity, and monitors key underwriting performance drivers.

Reviews assigned portfolio of accounts to analyze macro level profit/growth trends in segment, line of business, geography, etc. Skilled at data and report gathering.

Complete Claims referrals in LiveWire, Follow Ups, and Risk Alert referrals.

Educate agencies about our Personal Lines products, services, automation, cross selling, and underwriting standards. Inform agents of Underwriting and/or product changes.

Develop and maintain on-going strong agency relationships.

Assist with agency development and training as necessary.

Identify and recommend process improvement, efficiency, rate evasion, premium leakage, and expense management enhancements.

Actively participate in continuous improvement:

Be fully engaged in daily/weekly huddles

Generate suggestions and share opinions

Participate in problem solving activities

Use continuous improvement tools to support the work of the team

What You’ll Bring To The Company:

Bachelor’s Degree, CPCU, or continuous course work in an insurance related program is preferred. Must have successfully completed Underwriting Training and attained a minimum of two years of relevant experience as a Personal Lines Underwriter in the insurance industry. Knowledge of state regulatory statutes and laws in the operating states required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with Agents, Policyholders and Grange personnel required. Requires an individual who is “results oriented" with excellent decision-making ability, organizational skills, and capable of managing their work to meet time sensitive deadlines. Strong PC skills with knowledge of business software, such as MS Word, Excel, Teams, and One Note required. Some overnight travel may be required.
