Overview
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, organised and approachable science technician to join our team. The successful candidate will have strong communication and IT skills.
This is a part time position. Hours can be flexible providing they meet the needs of the school.

Hours: 9 hours a week
Science Technician - Key Responsibilities
● The provision of Science practical’s for Biology, Chemistry and Physics
● Health/safety advice for teaching staff
● Demonstrating the use of equipment to teaching staff when necessary
● Keeping knowledge of hazards and risk assessments up to date - helping to ensure that COSHH regulations are carried out in the department
● Organising, storing, repairing and cleaning of equipment
● Organising, storing and checking the condition of chemicals
● Organising the safe storage of radioactive materials and liaising with the radioactive protection supervisor when appropriate.
● The safe treatment and disposal of waste materials including hazardous substances
● Preparing stock solutions
● Checking stock and keeping stock records
● Ordering equipment and materials by using the school ordering system
● Ensuring the school laboratories are clean and well stocked with teaching materials
● Undertaking some reprographic duties or resource duties, as determined by the needs of the Science department (e.g. printing exam papers).
● Completing first aid training and recording any incidents using the school system
● Attend Science department meetings

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Background in Science related industry or Science teaching
Experience working as a Science Technician in an educational setting is desirable.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain one).
Ability in preparing solutions, cultures, and specimens, as well as setting up experiments and apparatus for practical lessons and demonstrations
Literacy skills – able to read and understand science based instructions and maintain records
Numeracy skills – to be able to take accurate measurements and weights.
Able to plan and organise own work to meet tight deadlines.
Able to work with flexibility, meet deadlines and respond to unplanned situations.
Able to maintain high standards of accuracy in all tasks.
Able to work within strict Health & Safety guidelines
Knowledge and awareness of health and safety including COSHH and CLEAPSS

About Claremont
Claremont School is an independent day and boarding school. The Nursery and the Prep School are based in St Leonards on Sea, and the Senior School is located in Bodiam, East Sussex. The school is nonselective and welcomes children and young people from a large catchment area spanning 25 miles.
