* Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical malfunctions.
* Reviews technical, owners and repair manuals, schematics and drawings to determine manufacturer's recommendations for troubleshooting and preventive maintenance procedures.
* Uses diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical and electrical problems in buses.
* Diagnoses mechanical malfunctions, determines parts needed and orders through the parts room.
* Diagnoses, disassembles, inspects, repairs or replaces systems including; air and hydraulic brakes, cooling systems, drivelines, gasoline and diesel engines, HVAC, advanced hydraulics, electrical, steering and suspension, and transmissions.
* Rotates and balance tires, change oil and filters, lubricate vehicle parts, inspect and replaces hoses, belts, mirrors, lamps, and maintain all fluid levels.
* Makes road calls on disabled District buses and performs minor repairs on the road.
* Dispose or recycles used oils and hazardous materials and chemicals according to established occupational and environmental regulations and practices.
* Performs preventive maintenance on a scheduled basis as determined by the Director of Fleet and Shop Foreman.
* Maintains accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and services.
* Performs inspections on District buses to meet safety requirements.
* Inspects vehicle (during PM inspection) to ensure all safety requirements are met.
* Repairs all items not meeting safety requirements; informs the Shop Foreman if not immediately repairable.
* Adhere to strict safe working practices, District policies, rules, regulations, corrects obvious hazards immediately or reports to the Shop Foreman if not immediately correctable.
* Maintains shop area, tools, and equipment in an orderly and safe manner.
* Works collaboratively with the Shop Foreman and other technicians to ensure the District fleet goals are met.
* Travel throughout the district is integral.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
* Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A.
equivalency) required.
* Minimum three (3) years of auto/truck maintenance and repair experience.
* Competency to complete required bus driver safety training.
* Must maintain current Vehicle Inspectors certification IAW Texas Administrative Code; Vehicle Inspection (37 TAC Part 1, Chapter 23) or obtain within four months of employment.
* Minimum of four (4) ASE Automotive Certifications (Automotive A1-A8 or Medium/Heavy Duty Truck T1-T6, or School Bus S1-S7) or obtain ASE certifications within 18 months of employment, or Texas Association of School Bus Technicians (TASBT) equivalent.
* Type 3 driving record that meets the District's standard for operations of motor vehicles.
* Meet TEA qualifications for school bus drivers.
* Possess a current Texas Class "A" or "B" Commercial Driver's License required upon hire, with "P" and "S" endorsements or obtain within 6 months of employment.
* Knowledge of school bus/automotive mechanical components.
* Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and effectively perform repairs for all vehicles.
This will include the removal/replacement of engines, fuel systems, electrical, and diagnose transmissions (RR). * Knowledge of Service Maxx, Diamond Logic builder, Cummins In-site, Mercedes, Detroit, and Alison doc programs.
* After treatment systems including EGR Valves EGR Coolers, SCR, DPF.
DOC and Injector Diagnostics.
* Turbo Chargers-Cylinder Cutout test-Leak down test-High Pressure pump test-ICP & IPR.
* Ability to diagnose minor mechanical problems and perform repairs without supervision.
* Ability to operate tools and equipment involved in vehicle repair.
* Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts.
* Acceptable communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to operate a school bus.
* Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
* Ability to work shifts as needed.
* Ability to use time wisely to ensure efficient and effective operations.
* Must maintain a Texas Driver's License that meets Dallas ISD standards.
* Must be able to pass the Dallas ISD random drug test.
