About the Role:
The Paramedic at Critical Access Hospital - Grantsville (CAHGR) plays a vital role in delivering advanced pre-hospital emergency medical care to patients in critical and life-threatening situations. This position requires rapid assessment, intervention, and stabilization of patients while coordinating with emergency services and hospital staff to ensure seamless continuity of care. The Paramedic will respond to a variety of emergencies including medical, trauma, fire, and hazardous materials incidents, often working under high-pressure conditions. This role demands a commitment to patient safety, adherence to protocols, and effective communication with multidisciplinary teams. Ultimately, the Paramedic contributes significantly to improving patient outcomes and community health through expert emergency medical response and education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be 18 years or older.
Prior EMS experience (volunteer or paid).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in high-pressure environments.
Commitment to continuing education and professional development.
Provide advanced life support and emergency medical care to patients at the scene and during transport to the hospital.
Perform patient assessments, administer medications, and execute emergency procedures in accordance with established protocols.
Operate and maintain emergency medical equipment and vehicles to ensure readiness and safety.
Collaborate with emergency services, hospital personnel, and disaster response teams to coordinate patient care and resource allocation.
Current West Virginia Paramedic Certification through WVOEMS or National Registry (NREMT-P).
Document patient care reports accurately and timely to support clinical and legal requirements.
Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited Paramedic Education Program.
Valid CPR certification at the healthcare provider level.
Completion of Hazmat Awareness training (OSHA 1910.120 standard).
Successful completion of WVOEMS Protocol Course.
Participate in ongoing EMS education, training drills, and quality improvement initiatives to maintain and enhance clinical skills.
Respond to hazardous materials (Hazmat) incidents and implement fire safety measures as required.
Must pass state and national background checks.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Affiliation with a West Virginia licensed EMS agency (or willingness to affiliate upon hire).
