DEFINITION

Under the supervision of the Senior Services Supervisor performs a variety of custodial and routine maintenance tasks; may assist in the preparation and serving of meals; responsible for packaging the meals, set up of delivery truck and the delivery of homebound meals.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as a representative of the City of Mesquite, demonstrating a positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy, and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and with the public.

Perform facility maintenance and custodial duties including, but not limited to lifting, sweeping, disposing of waste, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms and washing windows.

Responsible for the day to day cleanliness of the Senior Center by cleaning work areas, including floors, stove top, and ovens daily, refrigerator and walk-ins weekly.

Ensure that appropriate supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc., are available to users.

May assist in preparing homebound meals at designated times.

May assist in monitoring various programs/activities in arts and crafts and promote neighborhood and community recreation events.

Provide homebound meal delivery to seniors 60 years of age and older who are disabled.

Report meal counts daily and keep homebound route information updated daily.

Collect homebound donations.

Maintain temperature of meals and safety inspections records.

Fuel and clean vehicle as needed.

Compile simple written records related to assigned programs or facility.

Assist in enforcing Senior Center policies to the patrons.

Be dependable and meet acceptable attendance requirements at all times.

Follow all applicable safety rules and regulations.

Positive attitude, polite and professional.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

May assist in the preparation, serving control of meals, and serving of all meals for seniors.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The degree of knowledge and ability as outlined under this section is that which is necessary to satisfactory perform the essential functions of this position.

Knowledge of:

Equipment, materials, and supplies used in cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining facilities.

Safety procedures and methods.

Safe driving practices; safety procedures as they related to maintaining vehicles.

Traffic and vehicular laws in the State of Nevada.

City Streets

Proper handling and use of chemicals, solvents, and other potentially hazardous materials.

Food services facilities, equipment, operation and program services.

Kitchen safety practices, procedures and rules.

Basic first aid and safety practices.

Pertinent local, State and Federal laws, ordinances and rules.

Health and safety procedures.

Good communication techniques and skills Ability to:

Use cleaning equipment and tools properly and safely.

Follow label directions on cleaning products in order to use properly and safely.

Read maps and locate addresses.

Operate small hand and power tools properly and safely.

Perform daily assigned tasks independently without close supervision.

Read, write, and speak the English Language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; follow written and oral instructions.

Handle emergency situations and reporting such to Senior Center.

Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Work a flexible schedule which will include early mornings, some evenings, weekends, and holidays. Experience, Education and Training:

Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience which provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D.

Experience: Experience in custodial/facilities maintenance preferred.

Training: Current standard First Aid and CPR Certification, or ability to possess within six months

License or Certificate: Must possess at the time of employment and continuously throughout employment a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483 and, a current Clark County Health District Food Handler Health Card.

Supplemental Information

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed under the following conditions:

Duties are primarily performed at the Senior Center building and other facilities as needed. Work may occasionally be performed outside in varying conditions in varying and extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time. Requires early morning, weekend, holiday and evening work.

Physical Requirements:

Work is generally performed both indoors in a climate controlled environment and outdoors subject to extreme weather conditions while delivering meals. Strength and stamina to stand, walk, and climb stairs and ladders; stamina and flexibility to stoop, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl; strength, dexterity, and stamina to use hands and arms to reach, finger, handle, feel, grasp, open containers, and to operate hand and power tools, floor cleaning, polishing, and other equipment; ability to periodically work in confined spaces; frequent moving/lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasional moving/lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling of objects weighing up to 100 pounds.

Job Hazards/Risk factors:

Employees risk hazard from cleaning solvents, mechanical and electrical equipment, exposure to human debris, drug paraphernalia, heavy equipment, and working around hot equipment stoves, ovens and slippery floor surfaces.
