General Description
Under the general supervision of the IT Manager, the IT Technician I is responsible for a variety of complex, technical, and administrative duties requiring a thorough knowledge of computer and network operations. The IT Technician I will perform technical support tasks in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of computer hardware, software, equipment, and related systems. This position will maintain accurate records of support activities and contributes to the efficient and secure operation of the City of Middleton (“The City”) IT systems.

Serves of the secondary help desk contact for the City’s Information Technology Department
Assists with basic functions of the local and wide area networks
Provides software and hardware support for the PCs, printers, and other technology solutions
Attends operating system and hardware trainings as required
Provides input to management for system upgrades and enhancements
Maintains software, hardware, and other systems to minimize disruption to users
Completes special projects and other job duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications and Competencies
Minimum Education and Experience
The requirements listed below are necessary to perform the essential duties of the position
High School Diploma or equivalent and some post-high schedule educational coursework in information technology, computer science or a closely related field is required
A minimum of one (1) year of experience in help desk support, IT support, customer service, or closely related field is required
Must have reliable transportation to travel to the primary work location and for travel between City facilities or other designated sites, when required.

Experience with imaging or deployment tools
Certifications preferred:
CompTIA A+
CompTIA Network+
Microsoft Certified: Fundamentals

Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating systems, Microsoft Office, and M365 Cloud Application Solutions
Working knowledge of servers and server virtualization including Hyper-V, Microsoft Windows server operating systems, and storage and network technologies

Ability to manage and maintain desktop and mobile PCs

A regular, Monday – Friday, 40-hour work schedule is required for this position. Attendance at evening meetings, special events and/or for system updates may be occasionally required. Remote work opportunities may be partially available with supervisor approval.
Work is performed primarily in an office environment with travel to meetings, work sites, or other locations required as needed
Work will involve contact with the public, requiring effective communication and professional conduct.
Work may involve exposure to stressful situations, deadlines, or conflict resolution
Work requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, and lift objects up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds periodically
Work requires extended periods of standing or walking
Work will involve operating standard office equipment (computer, telephone, copier, etc.)
Vision and hearing are required to perform essential functions and communicate effectively
Work will require climbing, operating equipment, or working in confined spaces
