Description

Basic Function

The Reach Higher Coach assists students ages 14-18 with academic, workforce, and social emotional skill development. Responsibilities include homework support, college test preparation assistance, and life skills training. Coordinates with AMP programs to implement individualized, comprehensive strategies to support students’ secondary, post-secondary, and career planning activities.

Responsibilities

Supports and guides students by assisting with and giving feedback on homework in all subject areas.

Identify strengths and weaknesses of assigned students, using TABE test and/or other assessments as an evaluator tool.

In collaboration with AMP Team, identify and implement academic enrichment activities.

Assist with standardized test preparation (ACT, SAT)

Coach students in exploring graduation pathways and post-secondary education and certification opportunities.

Provide instruction in social emotional and life skill development.

Maintains a healthy, safe, and clean learning environment in the classroom.

Serves as a role model and mentor for students.

Maintains accurate, complete, and appropriate records and files as required by program.

Maintain regular communication with AMP Team as related to student progress, needs, and concerns.

Provide opportunities for parent engagement.

Enforce rules and policy, and implement disciplinary measures and procedures, as needed.

Assist with setup, cleanup, meal service, and any other tasks as required by supervisors.

Perform tasks pertinent to achieving goals and objectives required by Youth Program grant, or as deemed necessary by Site Coordinator and/or Youth Program Director.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Education or related area preferred.

Experience

Previous experience working with high school students. Competent in teaching, assessments and standardized testing for secondary education. Experience working with the refugee and immigrant community.
