The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a non-tenure track, full-time, nine-month position as an Assistant Teaching Professor in the School of Kinesiology and Nutrition in the College of Education and Human Sciences to begin fall 2026. Applicants should include a cover letter with information detailing potential for high-quality teaching, student mentorship, and service activities. Also, candidates should provide a curriculum vitae, a philosophy of teaching, a list of three professional references, and official transcripts. The anticipated start date is the fall of 2026. Job Summary: This nine-month, non-tenure track faculty position requires teaching undergraduate and graduate-level courses in the school, mentoring students, and providing service to the school, college, university, and professional organizations. The school administers undergraduate programs in Exercise Science, Nutrition and Dietetics, Sport Coaching, Fitness and Nutrition, and K-12 Physical Education Licensure, master's programs in Coaching & Sport Performance, Kinesiology, Nutrition & Food Systems, as well as a Kinesiology PhD. The ideal candidate would be qualified to teach, serve, and help manage content and programming within our undergraduate and graduate programs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Commitment to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate coursework.
Engage in professional development activities to maintain teaching competence.
Assist with the assessment and evaluation of programs.
Provide service to the School, College, University, and professional organizations and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Nutrition (or closely related field) with the expertise and qualifications to support the school's programming.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from all backgrounds, programs, and colleges.
Knowledge of the fields of Kinesiology/Exercise Science, Nutrition and Dietetics and/or Sport Performance.
Skill sets associated with use and application of common Exercise Science methodologies, teaching, and scholarly tools.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in developing and delivering courses and curriculum at the College level. Experience in ONLINE delivery systems like CANVAS. Clinical experience in Exercise Science related areas.
