POSITION SUMMARY:

Conway Medical Center is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic fellowship trained Medical Hematologist/Oncologist. The ideal candidate should possess an incredible desire to work with oncology and hematology patients through the stages of their disease process. They will work with an excellent team of physicians, APPs and staff who strive to provide the best outcomes for their patients. The Godwin Healing Center is affiliated with the Duke Cancer Network, which provides access to advanced clinical trials, the latest cancer research, and best practices. This relationship also provides continuous staff education and training, enhancing the overall quality of care for patients.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Diagnose and treat a wide range of cancer and blood disorders while providing exceptional care.

Develop appropriate treatment plans, with measurable goals, that provide the highest level of care while conforming to patient preference.

Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.

Maintain quality of life for patients by managing cancer-related pain and the symptoms and side effects of treatment.

Refer patients to specialists and to relevant patient care resources as appropriate (alternative therapies, palliative care, etc.).

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Outpatient role with some inpatient responsibilities

Standard office hours (Mon-Fri / 8am-5pm)

Protected administrative time (8 hours per week)

Practice Call Schedule: Shared call schedule, 1:4 rotation for patient care needs through telephone calls – also supported by after-hours nurse triage.

Support Staff: The physician will have a team consisting of their own clinic support staff, an APP, and a robust specialized oncology nursing team.

CURRENT PATIENT VOLUME & CENSUS:

Average Patient Volume: 15-20 patients per day

Patient Census: Adult patients with a wide range of cancers and hematologic disorders, from early-stage to advanced.

VISIT TYPES AND PROCEDURES:

40% Oncology and 60% Hematology

Visit types: Initial cancer diagnosis, treatment planning, chemotherapy follow-ups, and management of hematologic conditions like anemia and clotting disorders.

Procedures: Bone marrow biopsies, port insertions, etc.

FACILITIES & SUPPORT:

Clinic/Facility: 10-chair infusion center, onsite lab and pharmacy, two additional infusion centers on campus (1 general/1 rheumatology)

Imaging/Diagnostics: PET scanning, 64-slice CT, 3-D mammography, breast MRI, high-definition endoscopy/bronchoscopy

Tumor Boards: Bi-weekly for breast, PCC, GI, and ENT

Surgical Referrals: Includes breast, colorectal, and vascular; Bone marrow transplants referred to Charleston (MUSC or Roper St Francis)

ACGME Accredited: Medical students, CMC Family Medicine Residency, transitional year, Sports Medicine Fellowship program

Research & Trials: Currently no active clinical trials; aligned with Duke for access to approximately 450 protocols

Currently undergoing submission to become accredited by The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
