As a Temporary Pre-Tabulation Ballot Processor I, you will assist in facilitating the pre-tabulation ballot processing for Maricopa County Elections. Working as part of a bipartisan team, you will accurately prepare incoming early ballots.

We Require

High school diploma or GED

Experience utilizing a calculator or similar device

Other Requirements

Must successfully complete a background screening

Must be eligible to vote in Arizona

Mandatory overtime during all election cycles

One or more years of general office experience

One or more years of moderate computer use experience

One or more years of election experience

One or more years of customer service experience

Job Contributions

Follows detailed step-by-step instructions to ensure work is auditable and process compliant

Verifies that both the physical count of ballots and affidavits being processed are in balance and correspond to the written entries logged

Accurately identifies and documents any discrepancies between affidavit and ballot codes for each affidavit packet handled and ensures proper processing of damaged ballots for audit purposes

Prepares basic chain-of-custody paperwork for ballots delivered to the Ballot Tabulation Center

May provide support to other divisions as assigned by supervisory staff

Working Conditions

Attendance and punctuality are critical; some work shift flexibility is needed based on operational needs; the usual work schedule is set as 8 hours, Monday-Friday, but may require:

Working holidays/weekends

Occasionally working only 4 hours a day or up to 10 hours a day

May be asked to take occasional days off when business needs do not require full staffing

Requires the ability to sit for extended periods

Requires the ability to meet high-volume deadlines

Requires upper extremity repetitive motion

Requires repetitive reading to compare affidavit packet codes with ballot codes

Requires the ability to occasionally lift floor-to-shoulder or lower from shoulder-to-waist up to 25 pounds and carry for 100 feet

Requires the ability to occasionally push/pull up to 50 pounds for 200 feet

Must not engage in any political discussion during the election

Selection Procedure - Maricopa County

The Maricopa County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates considered to be the most highly qualified. Those selected will be assessed based on the evaluation of listed education and experience. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a list provided by Human Resources.
