About This Role
This is a full-time, associate-level position at LT Municipal Consultants (LTMC). LT provides financial consulting and rate studies for public utilities such as water and sewer systems owned by cities, counties, and special districts. Successful employees have strong analytical skills, proficiency in MS Excel, are receptive to on-the-job training, and typically have a few years of work experience in a related field such as business/economics, engineering, or local government. We consult with public utilities and their retail customers which is a niche specialization, there is little carryover with venture capital, banking, and traditional financial institutions.
The successful candidate will work under the direction of partners and other associates in a team atmosphere. Daily activities will vary and include Excel-based financial modeling, drafting written reports, and speaking with or presenting to clients. This position will be a minimum of four days in-person in our Alameda office and one work from home day. Local travel may be required to attend meetings both during working hours and during the evening. Travel time and expenses are paid by LTMC. Responsibilities
Perform data entry and interpret data. Provide summary charts and graphs.
Develop financial models to analyze and forecast revenues, expenses, and financial performance of public utilities (following training and mentorship from LTMC).
Assist in the preparation of written reports, client presentations, outreach materials, and LTMC marketing documents
Summarize analysis and findings for different audiences, writing clearly and with attention to detail. Documents will include formal reports, technical memoranda, and utility customer newsletters.
Participate in progress meetings with clients and occasionally attend both virtual and in-person public meetings within California.
Adhere to project schedules and proactively provide regular updates to team members.
Preferred skills and qualifications
Undergraduate Degree in Finance, Economics, Public Administration, Accounting, Business, or related field with 2+ years of professional experience
1+ Years of experience in a professional office environment
Proficiency with the use of Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills
Valid California Driver’s License and access to personal transportation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize deadlines across multiple projects
Demonstrated experience in quantitative analysis (e.g., accounting, budgeting, etc.). Experience using MS Excel to filter and sort data, develop pivot tables, and create charts and graphs.
Advanced analytical skills, with experience collecting, organizing, and disseminating information accurately
Some local travel may be required, with additional limited overnight travel (within California).
What We Offer
The annual salary range offered for this position is $60,000 – $69,000. Actual pay offered will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate. In addition to base salary, we also offer:
Ten (10) Vacation days per year (increases with tenure, maximum of 20 days per year).
