Shear Operator

We are looking for an experienced Shear Operator to join our team! This role involves safely operating a power shear to cut metal sheets and plates according to specifications, while ensuring quality, efficiency, and a safe work environment.

Responsibilities:

Obtain order instructions from the supervisor.

Understand production procedures and interpret work order instructions.

Safely set up and operate the shear.

Adjust setup based on material size and angles.

Communicate immediately if questions or problems arise.

Instruct and assist the shear helper to maintain smooth operation.

Follow the check system and accurately complete production reports.

Measure and verify material counts and quality throughout the process.

Ensure setups are signed off by lead shear operator or backup.

Properly tag, package, and return excess inventory to stock.

Monitor equipment for problems; shut down and report issues immediately.

Perform routine maintenance and coordinate preventive maintenance with the maintenance team.

Keep work area clean and safe.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

Reliable and consistent attendance.

Ability to use measuring tape, micrometer, caliper, and Rockwell hardness tester.

Basic Excel skills for data entry and information searches.

Ability to calculate steel weights using formulas.

Distinguish steel types, sizes, thickness, and defects.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate a pendant crane.

Knowledge of quality control: size tolerance, steel type, surface defects, burrs, camber, and shape.

Manufacturing: 5 years required

Steel Industry: 2 years required
