SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Injection Molding Technician is responsible for playing a key role in machine setup, process optimization, and technician training. This hands on position is ideal for a technically skilled professional who thrives on solving problems in real time, mentoring others, and driving continuous improvement on the production floor.

JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Technical Expertise & Operations

Set up, operate, and troubleshoot injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment.

Monitor and adjust process parameters to ensure optimal part quality and cycle times.

Perform mold changes, machine maintenance, and hands-on repairs as needed.

Training & Development

Serve as a lead trainer for new and existing technicians, ensuring consistent knowledge transfer and skill development.

Develop and maintain training materials, SOPs, and best practices documentation.

Conduct hands-on training sessions and evaluate trainee performance.

Continuous Improvement

Identify and implement process improvements to reduce waste, improve cycle times, and enhance product quality.

Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to support lean manufacturing initiatives.

Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes.

Quality & Compliance

Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.

Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain high standards of production.

Document and report production data, machine performance, and quality metrics.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in injection molding operations.

Proven experience in training and mentoring technical staff.

Strong understanding of mold design, machine setup, and process optimization.

Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.

Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree preferred.

Preferred Skills

RJG Master Molder certification or equivalent.

Experience with automation and robotics in molding environments.

Knowledge of scientific molding principles.

Proficiency in using manufacturing software and data analysis tools.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift/carry up to 30 pounds.

Proficient use of fingers, hands, and arms for regular tasks.

Capability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and work in temperatures ranging from 60 F to 100 F.

Ability to climb steps, maintain good hand-eye coordination, and perform tasks that involve bending, squatting, and visual detection of defects and variances.
