FULL-TIME (SCHOOL YEAR)

HS ASSISTANT KITCHEN MANAGER

REPORTS TO THE FOOD SERVICE DIRECTOR AND HS SCHOOL MANAGER

Rate: $24.10 - $26.35 Hourly - Per Salary Step Schedule

Hours: 6:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 7.75 hours per day – 5 days a week

Location: Dedham High School

Job Summary:

Assists HS School Kitchen Manager with planning, supervising, and assisting in the daily production of all meals. This includes, but is not limited to, inventory control, ordering, receiving, record keeping, and staffing for all food supplies and meal production. Demonstrates leadership and initiative. Works with manager and director to control costs and produce revenue. Provides orientation and training to all on-site staff. Communicates effectively with food service staff, food service director, school faculty, administration, and students. Displays a high level of personal and professional integrity in the performance of duties. Accomplishes all tasks in a manner that promotes excellent customer service. Hires, supervises, and evaluates all on-site staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to:

Perform multiple simultaneous tasks under a time deadline

Perform basic and accurate mathematical calculations necessary to modify recipes, order food, make menu forecasts, prepare food production records, prepare food in accurate quantities, operate cash register, and keep accurate records of income, expense, and participation.

Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Safely and accurately operate all food production equipment

Plan, prepare, and clean up meals according to schedule and in accordance to the Food Service Department, Mass. Sanitation Code, Dedham Board of Health, and Mass. Restaurant Association standards for taste, quality, sanitation and safety

Manage time efficiently to successfully accomplish goals

Lift or move up to 45 lbs, unassisted, over duration of work schedule

Reach up to 6 feet high over duration of work schedule

Walk and stand for duration of work schedule

Follow both written and verbal directions and work independently

Work independently and cooperatively

Safely tolerate exposure to heat, humidity, steam, cooking odors, refrigerator and freezer temperatures, and cleaning solutions

QUALIFICATIONS (continued):

Ability to:

Display competence in using a computerized system with the ability to troubleshoot POS problems

Set the tone for a positive work atmosphere

Provide catering when necessary and/or arrange for staff member in the same kitchen to complete according to Food Service Director’s specifications. Participate as part of team for large, district-wide catering events

Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Minimum of 2 years work experience in quantity food production. Supervisory experience strongly preferred

Demonstrated history of punctuality and good attendance

Basic computer literacy (for email, word processing, and data entry)

Working Conditions:

Able to lift materials weighing up to 45 pounds.

Exposed to heat while cooking and preparing foods.

Has manual dexterity to handle knives, and other pieces of kitchen equipment such as

slicers, mixers and cash registers.

Able to work in a standing position for prolonged periods.

Need to keep hair restrained and wear vinyl or plastic gloves while handling food.
