About the Role
A growing engineering services firm in Columbus, OH is seeking detail-oriented CAD Drafters to assist with the development of aerial and underground utility designs for ongoing fiber optic and telecommunications infrastructure projects. This position is part of our engineering design team and works under moderate supervision to transform survey data and field notes into AutoCAD-based construction drawings.
Key Responsibilities
Draft and update construction-level drawings for telecom infrastructure including underground and overhead installations
Interpret and incorporate field survey notes into conduit and cable design layouts
Produce fiber optic cable designs, running line paths, splice points, conduit structures, and utility poles
Assist with the preparation of permit application packages
Review and research existing utility infrastructure including water, sewer, electric, and gas
Qualifications & Skills
Working proficiency with AutoCAD (preferred but not required)
Will teach, must learn to read and interpret engineering blueprints, utility conduit plans, and construction schematics
Comfortable interacting with utility providers, municipalities, and engineering teams to gather existing utility data
Strong time management, organization, and independent research skills
Effective verbal and written communication
Willingness to learn, and ability to work independently
Preferred Experience
1+ years of experience working with AutoCAD
Prior exposure to telecommunications or utility design
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks under deadlines
Compensation
Starting Wage: $18 $20 per hour - Rate will depend on relevant experience and technical proficiency.
