Job Overview:

SAPA Transmission is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our manufacturing team. As a CNC Machinist, you will play a key role in the setup, operation, adjustment, and optimization of our machines to manufacture high-precision automatic transmissions and components for U.S. Army tracked vehicles. This position requires a strong technical foundation, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing mission-critical parts that meet the highest standards of quality and performance.

Responsibilities:

Set up and operate multi-axis machining centers and mill-turn equipment with Fanuc, Mazatrol, and Siemens Sinumerik controls to manufacture components such as transmission housings, housing covers, piston housings, gears, and splines.

Review and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and NC programs to ensure accuracy and alignment with production specifications.

Monitor tool life and tool wear, make cutter comp adjustments or replace tools as needed to maintain optimal performance.

Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.

Inspect machined parts using precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges) to ensure they meet quality standards, and document and report any deviations or defects.

Identify and implement process improvements by applying best practices and lean manufacturing principles to enhance productivity and reduce waste.

Mentor and train junior machinists and operators by providing guidance on best practices, safety procedures, and efficient machine operations.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of production runs, machine settings, and maintenance activities to ensure proper documentation and accessibility.

Work closely with engineers, CNC programmers, production planners, and other team members to resolve production issues and meet project deadlines.

Troubleshoot programs and manufacturing issues on the shop floor.

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate’s degree in machining or a related field preferred.

Minimum of 10 years of experience as a CNC machinist, with a proven track record of operating and setting up CNC machines.

Proficiency in operating multi-axis mills, mill-turns, lathes, and other machining equipment.

Experience with Makino, Mazak, and Heller machining centers preferred.

Experience with Fanuc, Mazatrol, and Siemens Sinumerik controls preferred.

Strong understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T, and G-Code NC programs.

Experience with precision measurement tools and measurement techniques.

Familiarity with Zoller equipment and TMS software, along with experience in Fastems Automation and MMS software, is preferred.

Experience cutting aluminum, mild & alloy steels, and stainless steel.

Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices in machining.

Experience in a leadership or mentoring role is a plus.

Benefits:

6% retirement plan contribution by SAPA Transmission (regardless of employee contribution to 401k plan).

Paid Holiday, Time Off (PTO), and sick time.

Medical, Rx, dental, vision and life insurance benefits with minimal employee contribution.

Short and long-term disability.

Clean, air-conditioned facility.

Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.

Due to our current prototyping phase, shift times may vary based on business needs. This can include second shifts or occasional weekend work to meet project deadlines. Candidates must be flexible and adaptable to changing schedules.
