SAFETY SENSITIVE JOB
Job Summary: Perform complex, specialized tasks associated with the operation of CT scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures. Position patients for CT scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
Job Duties:
Explaining scanning and x-ray procedures to patients and providing reassurance and support as required.
Assist radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV’s, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
Assist radiologist with interventional CT procedures, if applicable.
Evaluate CT scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Transmit to PACS.
Positioning patients for imaging exams and using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
Monitoring patients and ensuring safety of patients during exams.
Demonstrate acceptable quality standards by critiquing positioning, technical factors and collimation.
Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions.
Documenting information with computers. Conduct scheduling and coordination of patient flow for work area or shift.
Charge procedures and supplies in RIS, able to modify orders.
Understands and uses PACS system, if applicable.
Dispense oral contrast to patients for CT scans.
Load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration.
Maintain accurate patient records.
Provide orientation and training to new CT technologists.
Provide care for psychological and physical needs of patients for CT scans.
Provide education and training to student technologists.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
Qualifications:
Education:
Completion of a 24-month AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology
ARRT certification in Radiography
Training and Experience:
2 years clinical experience
Must have current BLS
Job Knowledge:
Sound knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
Strong technical skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Effective communication skills.
Perform the described duties in the primary work area and demonstrate competency in at least one of the following: I.V. and contrast administration, preceptorship, orthopedic radiology, pediatric radiology, off-site radiology facility management, operating room radiology, trauma radiology, GI radiology, out-patient diagnostic radiology, and inpatient diagnostic radiology. This may not be applicable to all Radiology sites. In addition to meeting competency requirements for work in more than one primary work area, must serve as a super user for various radiology initiatives (RIS, compliance training, restraint training) or serve as a department BLS instructor.
