Qualifications
The Inventory & Purchasing Manager leads and manages all aspects of Sterling’s inventory operations and purchasing functions. This hands-on leader is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely acquisition of goods and services, overseeing the organization and accuracy of incoming, outgoing, and in-house materials, and maintaining data integrity within our ERP system. This role supervises the Material Control and Shipping & Receiving functions, ensuring department efficiency, quality, and accountability while fostering strong vendor relationships.
The right candidate thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, balancing multiple priorities and coordinating closely with production, project management, and field operations teams to keep projects on track.
RESPONSIBILITY
The job responsibilities of this Inventory and Purchasing Manager position include, but are not limited to:
Oversee all inventory control, purchasing, and related ERP transactions to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Supervise, schedule, and evaluate Material Control and Shipping & Receiving team members.
Manage purchasing activities, including reviewing automated purchasing reports, processing requisitions, auditing purchase orders, and monitoring vendor performance.
Coordinate material kitting, staging, and returns to vendors or inventory within defined timelines.
Maintain a clean, organized, and “binned” system for all inventoried items.
Conduct and oversee annual inventory audits and periodic cycle counts.
Ensure accurate part number data, reorder points, and material descriptions in ERP.
Communicate proactively with internal teams about order status, special purchasing considerations, and delivery schedules.
QUALIFICAITONS
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 5 years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
Minimum 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Proven track record in vendor negotiations, supplier performance management, and delivering strategic sourcing results.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Preferred
10+ years relevant work experience.
ERP experience.
Inventory control, warehouse, or shipping/receiving experience.
Familiarity with manufacturing materials, hardware, and mechanical components.
Desired
Global Shop Solutions (ERP).
Microsoft Teams, Planner, SharePoint, OneNote and Stream.
SQL and/or VBA skills for reporting and process automation.
