Position: RN / LPN

Department: Dermatology

Shift: Days

Reports to: Director

Job SummaryProvides quality care that is dependent on physician order or directed by the NP. Delivers nursing interventions based on professional judgment in response to individualized patient needs. Promotes restorative health and/or supportive care using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Scribe for the provider

Completes training program for procedures and clinical documentation

Assisting the provider during dermatologic visits

Giving injections

Assisting with surgical procedures

Functioning independently to perform minor procedures

Notifying patients of test results

Addressing medication needs

Completing prior authorizations for medications

Sets up and assists with MOHS, PDT, Wide Excisions, I&D and other procedures

Performs and documents suture removals

Prepares and administers injections, including numbing skin

Prepares patients for PDT and documents treatment as ordered

Courteously notifies patients of lab and pathology results with provider instructions

Returns patient/family phone calls to providers answering questions and giving re-assurance

Other duties as directed

Collaborates with the NP, physician and multidisciplinary team to address patient needs

Appropriately seeks help or guidance from supervisor or other resource people

Demonstrates reliable attendance, reports on time and is ready to work at beginning of shift

Completes assigned duties, willingly accepts assignments and assists others to complete work on time

Willing to support a unit’s staffing needs by occasionally adjusting schedules, staying late or working extra

Establishes a safe, supportive work environment that promotes teamwork

Core Duties:

Provides patient care by collecting, monitoring, and reporting information and responding to basic needs

Promotes patient engagement by considering specific needs, values and preferences

Accurately and completely documents patient information and nursing care in the patient’s medical record

Promotes continuity of care by reporting activities, incidences, and changing patient needs to the next caregiver

Demonstrates infection prevention behaviors, consistent handwashing and use of appropriate PPEs

Adheres to safe medication administration while preparing, administering, documenting and monitoring meds

Recognizes safety risk and implements prevention of risks of falls, skin breakdown and injury

Contributes to the department’s performance improvement activities

Interaction Skills

Effectively communicate verbally and in writing; Ability to provide instructions and education.QualificationsEducation and Experience

Current LPN license by the Mississippi Board of Nursing OR

Current RN License by the Mississippi Board of Nursing

Must be able to read, write, and understand written and verbal communication.
