Position Overview

The Architecture Section of the Knowlton School is accepting applications for a part-time Senior Lecture appointment to teach undergraduate and/or graduate course(s)in the Architecture Section of the Knowlton School of Architecture. Duties include but are not limited to: curriculum/syllabus design, content and materials development, teaching, and service activities. The selected candidate(s) will be expected to complete activities and provide support for developing and teaching undergraduate and/or graduate students, depending on chosen candidate’s degree certification.

All courses are taught in person on the University’s main campus in Columbus, Ohio.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required

Master’s degree or equivalent

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Experience teaching in a learning setting including, but not limited to, K-12 classroom experience or higher education teaching as an instructor of record or graduate teaching assistant.

Located in the award-winning Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects-designed building on The Ohio State University’s Columbus Campus, the Knowlton School fosters a singular environment for innovative design research and critical inquiry within its three sections: architecture, landscape architecture, and city and regional planning. As part of the College of Engineering, the Knowlton School enjoys the benefits of a large research institution including collaborative relationships with departments in engineering, design, ecology, history, as well as the Wexner Center for the Arts. The school’s ongoing catalogue of special programs includes the Baumer Visiting Professorship, the LeFevre Emerging Practitioner Fellowship, a lecture series, gallery exhibitions, and the Source Books series. Architecture has approximately 420 students, 19 full-time and 15 auxiliary faculty members.

Founded in 1899, the Architecture Section at the Knowlton School occupies a distinct place in U.S. architectural education. A strong design culture and pioneering work with technology is the foundation of its educational mission—this has long informed its culture of making. Knowlton Architecture today seeks to have an impact, intertwining aesthetic explorations with questions of social and environmental importance. It is through this intersectional and entangled thinking—cultural production and society, climate and aesthetics—that students design for better and more inclusive futures. The section’s catalogue of special programs includes the Baumer Visiting Professorship, the Trott Visiting Professorship, the LeFevre Emerging Practitioner Fellowship, a lecture series, gallery exhibitions, and the Source Books in Architecture series.
