Job Description

Oversees food quality, preparation and execution for dining site; coordinates and participates in activities of cooks and other kitchen personnel engaged in preparation and cooking of food in dining unit; responsible for food production; trains food service staff in production, preparation and garnishing techniques and enforces quality standards; supervises and participates in production team for dining unit; assumes responsibility for sanitation plan and procedures in accordance with HACCP and all applicable food codes and practices; assists Executive Chef with menu forecasting and purchasing; performs at special functions and events outside of dining unit.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree or combination of culinary experience and education; 4 years of experience in food production; ability to read and interpret recipes, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively to customers or employees; must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds frequently.

Desired: ACF or Pro Chef Certification; 4-8 years of experience in food production; 5 years supervisory experience in the culinary profession; experience supervising classified civil service, unionized labor force, and students; experience with C-bord or other similar menu management system; experience in high volume catering or restaurant; ServSafe or similar program certification; 4 years’ experience with HACCP principals.

The Ohio State University’s Student Life Dining Services is a premier campus dining department dedicated to serving students, staff, faculty and guests. Critical to the Residential Experience, Dining Services administers the student meal plan to approximately 15,000 residential students on the Columbus, Mansfield, Marion, Newark and Wooster campuses.

The hiring range for this position is $44,400 - $58,000
