SUMMARY
The Composite Technician is responsible for refurbishing aircraft interior composite components—specifically customer-facing surfaces such as sidewall panels. This role involves executing detailed, multi-step repairs to restore panels to a high-quality finish that meets strict regulatory and aesthetic standards. The Composite Technician will work hands-on with advanced composite materials and play a critical role in preparing components for final installation at the aircraft.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Refurbish aircraft sidewall panels by following a defined repair process including delamination, inspection, patching, filling, sanding, thermoforming, and final assembly.
Remove existing laminate, inspect substrate for defects, and complete necessary structural or cosmetic repairs.
Prepare surfaces by filling cracks and gouges, sanding smooth, and ensuring readiness for thermoforming.
Apply heat and pressure to bond new laminate using thermoform presses, ensuring strong adhesion and proper alignment.
Reinstall plastic subcomponents such as window reveals and surrounds prior to packaging.
Perform detailed inspections at various stages to ensure adherence to quality standards and customer requirements.
Document all work in repair logs and inspection reports accurately and consistently.
Support packaging and logistics functions to ensure repaired panels are protected and ready for delivery to the aircraft installation site.
Follow safety protocols and maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area.
Communicate and collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Inventory teams to resolve repair and material issues as needed.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE
Composite materials such as fiberglass, resins, adhesives, and thermoform laminates.
Structural and cosmetic repair techniques specific to interior aircraft panels or similar surfaces.
Vacuum bagging, laminate application, and curing processes.
Surface prep methods including patching, filling, and sanding for a smooth finish.
Technical drawings, blueprints, and repair instructions.
COMPETENCIES
Exceptional attention to detail for surface quality and adhesion verification.
High manual dexterity and craftsmanship in sanding, patching, and trim work.
Strong problem-solving skills, especially when identifying or correcting bonding issues.
Clear communication and documentation abilities.

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required:
High school diploma or GED required
Hands-on experience in surface treatment or repair of composite or fiberglass components.
Proficiency with sanding, patch repair, and filling techniques.
Familiarity with thermoforming or heat-activated laminate bonding.
Preferred:
Backgrounds in auto body repair, scratch/ding reconditioning, or fiberglass/boat hull restoration.
Experience with customer-facing panel refurbishment or cabin interior components.
Prior work in a regulated aerospace or repair station environment.
Technical school or trade certification in composites, auto body repair, or surface finishing.
A&P license or related certifications.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is conducted in a shop or hangar setting with exposure to tools, equipment, and materials such as fiberglass, resins, and adhesives. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. Cleanliness and attention to detail are critical due to the customer-facing nature of the components.
The Composite Technician must be able to:
Stand, bend, kneel, and work with hand tools for extended periods.
Lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
Perform delicate surface finishing and precise repair tasks.
Maintain visual and tactile sensitivity required for detecting imperfections and verifying adhesion.
Work in occasionally tight or elevated spaces as needed.
