Job Summary
We are seeking a friendly, detail-oriented Entry-Level Medical Desk Clerk to join our healthcare team. This position is responsible for providing administrative support, managing patient flow, and ensuring a smooth and welcoming front desk experience. Ideal candidates are organized, punctual, and have a passion for helping others in a healthcare setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-Greet and check in patients in a professional and courteous manner
-Answer multi-line phones and direct calls appropriately
-Schedule and confirm appointments using electronic medical records (EMR)
-Verify insurance information and collect co-pays or balances
-Enter and update patient information accurately into the system
-Maintain a clean and welcoming front desk and waiting area
-Assist with filing, faxing, scanning, and other clerical tasks as needed
-Ensure patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
Qualifications
-Must be able to type 30 wpm
-Ability to read, write and understand verbal and written instructions.
-Basic computer skills

Working Conditions
-Primarily seated in a front desk/reception area
-May involve occasional lifting of files or office supplies (up to 15 lbs)

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
GENERAL FUNCTION:
This position is accountable for the registration of patients at South Central Neurology, including those for office visits, injections and office procedures. This position requires getting registration forms completed and signed, verifying insurance, and some collection of co-pays/coinsurance. This position requires constant contact with patients and the public either by phone or in person as well as other tasks. This position requires excellent multi-tasking abilities and a high level of self-motivation to remain focused in fast-paced and high-pressure situations.
JOB DUTIES TO INCLUDE:
-Register patients accurately and timely.
-Verify insurance.
-Collect co-pays/coinsurance.
-Scan documents into patient chart.
-Answer clinic phone calls.
-Become familiar with worker’s compensation and VA referrals.
-Schedule patients appropriately according to provider templates.
-Complete End of Day reporting and send to appropriate person/persons.
-Confirm appointments for the next day, work Phreesia report daily.
-Work no show appointments, check fax folder and sort accordingly
-Scan new patient referrals and schedule appointments
-Must comply with any other duties that are assigned by the clinic management team.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
-Must be able to type 30 wpm and basic computer skills
-Must have exceptional people skills, ability to work with providers, patients and staff
-Must provide excellent customer service and interact well with people
-Must be familiar with health system policies and procedures
