Salary: $18.00 per hour

Our Security Staff are a necessary component of our ability to provide a safe, comfortable environment for shelter guests, staff and volunteers.

Shifts are available at both (Men/Women) shelters. Shifts for this position are 4-10:30pm, 4pm-12am and 11:30pm-9am seven days a week. (Shift differential for overnight shifts) Minimum of one shift per week.

The essential functions of Security Staff include:

Performing checks of guests and their belongings as they present to shelter.

Screening guests for self-care. We do not require our guests to be completely sober to stay with us. However, they are expected to be able to take care of themselves: walk without staggering, clean up after themselves, be respectful, etc. It is security staffs responsibility to determine whether a guest can do so before allowing the guest entry.

Performing routine checks of the shelter and shelter grounds.

Monitoring guest behavior. Recognizing and deescalating potentially threatening situations.

Communicating guest issues to the Shift Lead.

Writing clear and descriptive notes regarding guest issues.

Engaging and building rapport with shelter guests.

Completing other tasks as needed.

Necessary Skills

Experience working with low-income individuals, mental health and substance abuse issues preferred, but not required

A strong desire to serve others in the community

A positive attitude

A calm demeanor when dealing with challenging personalities

Responsibility to present for your assigned shifts, or to find coverage if you cannot

Ability to work well as a member of a team

Ability to juggle multiple responsibilities

Initiative to address issues that may arise
