Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Eligibility criteria must be met according to VHA policy, and applications should be submitted within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after reviewing the application. Former participants are ineligible to reapply. Qualifications
Applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements specified in the job announcement. Those pending completion of training or licensing may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Existing VA physicians who met the initial appointment standards are considered to have met the basic requirements. Basic Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy
Degree of MD or equivalent from an approved medical school
Current unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S., District of Columbia, or U.S. territories
Completion of VA-approved residency training leading to eligibility for board certification in a core specialty
Enrolled residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under supervision, not as independent practitioners
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Board certification may be required if supervising students/residents, holding faculty status, or mandated by specific VHA policies
Preferred: Board Certified/Eligible in Interventional Cardiology; minimum three years of leadership/administrative experience; experience in academic teaching; physical ability to perform duties as specified
