About Phipps Neighborhoods
Phipps Neighborhoods, the social service affiliate of Phipps Houses, has been a catalyst for community growth and empowerment for over 50 years. Our mission is focused on creating safe, inclusive spaces where community members can access education, career opportunities, and economic pathways. Serving approximately 14,000 New Yorkers annually, we address barriers to educational achievement, economic security, and career stability through three key program areas:
Education and School-Day Programs: Offering pre-kindergarten services, community schools, after-school programs, and college access counseling.
Sector-Focused Training and Employment Placement Pathways: Providing specialized training, employment placement pathways, Summer Youth Employment, Work Learning Grow initiatives, and aiding residents in accessing new employment opportunities.
Community & Economic Empowerment Services: Enabling community progress through community centers, resident services, food access, financial literacy programs, and support accessing benefits and wellness services. We collaborate with government, corporate, and philanthropic partners to effect significant and lasting social change, fostering thriving communities.
Position Summary:
The Program Coordinator will work closely with the Director to create a dynamic after-school program utilizing youth development best practices and principles. The individual will assist in the implementation of activities including academic enrichment, project-based learning, arts, and physical education.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Partner with the Director to design and execute the program themes, activities and schedules that align with the organizational priorities and youth development principles.
Provide guidance and support to senior group leaders, group leaders and/or senior student advocates, and student advocates to enhance their effectiveness.
Collaborate with the Director to manage program logistics, including schedules, space reservations, resources needed, etc.
Create a monthly newsletter for families, school administration, and stakeholders to keep them informed and engaged on the program activities.
Input program supplies orders and close-outs in the purchasing system, Yardi
Ensure attendance is accurately entered in appropriated database(s)
Some weekend work related to special events, meetings may be required
Create a strong sense of community which values respect, acceptance, and high expectations
Work closely with the Director and staff establish a common language and vision that speaks to our purpose in the community and the impact we aim to make
Work closely with families, parents and guardians to ensure the needs of students are met
Help collect and organize data
Perform any and all task deemed necessary by the Director Qualifications/Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required. Some college credits preferred
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a youth development role, ideally with the target age group.
