Injection Molding Engineer

Job Description

Position is located in Brainerd, MN.

Job Purpose and Impact:

Perform required operations to set up various sizes and types of injection molding machines and processes.

Key Accountabilities:

· Position, align, secure molds, adjust ram stroke, regulate temperature and pressure.

· Run test cycles and adjust as necessary. Profiles that include time, temperature, shot size, among others.

· Responsible for mold/machine changeovers. Critical to communicate with Production Manager

· Responsible for the material drying process. Assist with the set-up, adjustment and maintenance of auxiliary equipment.

· Be aware and communicate to the Purchasing Manager material inventory levels and conditions.

· Assist with process documentation development.

· Responsible for periodic monitoring and recording of products to meet acceptable quality levels.

· Able to identify cosmetic, dimensional and other defects and make proper adjustments. Communicate to Quality and Production Manager when issues are observed.

· Troubleshoot production issues and communicate when there are problems.

· Assist with mold, equipment, and other plant maintenance.

· Be a team player. Work with limited supervision and maintain an atmosphere of cooperation with the technical team and management to achieve departmental goals.

· Identify and communicate opportunities for improvements for the molding process and performance.

· Work to improve setup and tear down processes supporting production quality.

· Support the documentation development and record keeping for molds and mold performance.

· Work on continuous improvement projects supporting Lean Manufacturing.

· Other duties as required.

Other Responsibilities:

· High level of organization, self-motivation, and ownership of assigned duties.

· Must communicate developments, issues, and concerns in the mold room.

· Must be detailed oriented.

· Experience with Lean Manufacturing is preferred.

· Able to work both individually and as a team member

· Knowledgeable on building maintenance

Minimum Qualifications:

· Technical degree or vocational school training is preferred.

· Five plus years working in an injection molding environment is preferred.

· Experience with Windows PC based applications is required.

· Knowledge of properties of plastics.

Working Conditions:

Production floor/office. Position includes sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling and use of hands and arms to operate shop equipment. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs.
