Position Summary

The Composites Application Engineer is the primary technical point of contact for prospective and existing customers. This role drives early engagement by uncovering requirements, advising on design-for-manufacturability, and developing accurate cost models for competitive quotes.

This position requires strong interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of composite manufacturing processes, and the ability to clearly communicate technical tradeoffs. You’ll work closely with sales, engineering, and production teams to deliver innovative solutions to complex challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the technical response to customer RFQs and RFPs.

Serve as the customer-facing expert in molded composites, including compression molding and bladder molding.

Develop accurate cost models, including labor, material, and tooling estimates.

Review engineering drawings, ply books, and process specs to ensure manufacturability.

Provide design-for-manufacturability feedback and recommend material/process solutions.

Support sales initiatives with technical insights and presentations.

Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth handoff from quoting to production.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong expertise in prepreg composite materials, cure cycles, and molding techniques.

Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T.

Familiarity with tooling design principles and aerospace specifications.

Proven experience creating cost models and using Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).

Excellent communication skills for technical discussions and presentations.

Ability to manage multiple quotes and projects in a fast-paced environment.

Education & Experience

3+ years in the composites industry, preferably in a technical sales or application engineering role.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred (or equivalent experience).

Working Conditions

Office and manufacturing environment.

Occasional travel for customer visits or trade shows.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
