Job Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing advanced accounting tasks, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. The Senior Accountant will act as a mentor and coach to others on the team, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance their professional growth and ensure adherence to best practices.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP).
Support audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor queries. Financial Reporting
Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
Analyze financial data and provide insights to management.
Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting processes.
Mentoring & Coaching
Serve as a resource and mentor for AP and AR clerks, providing training and guidance on accounting procedures, systems, and best practices.
Review work prepared by AP and AR clerks, when necessary and offering constructive feedback and support.
Foster a collaborative and positive team environment, encouraging continuous learning and professional development.
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting function.
Collaborate with AP and AR clerks to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.
Other Duties
Assist with special projects and ad hoc analysis as required.
Stay current with changes in accounting regulations and industry trends.
Qualifications
Bachelorʼs degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, CMA) preferred
4+ years of relevant accounting experience
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., NetSuite)
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to mentor or coach junior staff (formally or informally) High attention to detail and accuracy
