The St. John's Ministries team has an opening for a Peer Support Guest Advocate. The number of people experiencing homelessness or housing instability has risen and we are looking for a person who has overcome similar life experiences and is passionate about helping others do the same.

Peer Support Guest Advocate

Green Bay, Wisconsin

Position Overview:

Full-time

Under the direction of the Director of Case Management Services, the Peer Support Guest Advocate will provide peer support services to guests experiencing homelessness cooccurring with mental health conditions and/or substance use disorder(s).

The Peer Support Guest Advocate is a certified Peer Support Specialist with an understanding of mental illness and/or substance use disorder(s), or cooccurring conditions, and is formally trained to help guests experiencing such conditions to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Create, update, and maintain policies and procedures for Peer Support Specialist services.

Facilitate individualized services and programs for guests that meet their diverse needs with a focus on their goal achievement.

Coordinate and facilitate group outings onsite and offsite, ensuring safety and confidentiality.

Collaborate with case managers, shelter staff, and security staff for best guest care and services.

Appropriately advocate for guests with mental health conditions and/or substance use disorder(s) through a harm reduction lens.

Advance and advocate for harm reduction best practices within our facilities.

Assist in clarifying mental health and recovery goals as appropriate.

Assist and support guests to conduct daily activities such as personal hygiene, nutrition, transportation, and connection to healthcare services working in collaboration with case managers and community partners.

Maintain up-to-date and accurate case notes in CaseWorthy for guest interactions.

Seek and fulfill educational and workplace requirements to maintain certification as a Peer Support Specialist.

Coordinate activities, manage budgets, and ensure all peer support-related programs and projects are completed on time and within budget.

Prepare reports on program progress, outcomes, and evaluations, and assist in grant writing and funding requests.

Represent St. John's Ministries in select community groups, and convey information learned to staff members.

Plan and organize events, workshops, and seminars related to peer support and harm reduction, ensuring all logistical details are managed effectively.

Assist in writing stewardship reports for current program donors and prospective donors. Additional Responsibilities:

Maintain a presence at shelters and resource centers as needed and work occasional shelter shifts as assigned.

Assist with CaseWorthy management.

Actively participate in work groups and team initiatives.

Perform other duties as assigned. Employees Supervised:

None. Education and Experience:

Peer Support Specialist certificate required.

Continuing education and training to remain certified as a Peer Support Specialist required.

1 to 2 years of experience in social services or case management required.

1 to 2 years of experience in homelessness services preferred. Skills and Abilities:

Comfortability with people presenting with issues related to mental health challenges, substance abuse, trauma, low-income and/or homelessness, and/or experience in a healthcare setting.

Passion for the mission and population served by St. John's Ministries.

Ability to report to work at our various locations.

Must be flexible in working hours as evening and weekends are required on occasion. Physical Demands:

Work Location: Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk. Occasionally required to lift and or move up to 20 pounds.

Computer Use: Perform administrative tasks involving typing and computer use. Work Environment:

Professional Setting: Operate in a professional office environment using standard office equipment.

Safety Protocols: Follow safety protocols, including the use of PPE, to minimize health risks.
