The California Post is seeking an experienced Digital Editor to lead the operation of our digital publishing, on and off platform. This vital role will work closely with our News Editor to ensure The California Post delivers the strongest content to the widest audience. From driving engaging content from the newsroom to maintaining the highest standards in digital publishing, this role will also work closely with our audience development team to make certain our stories hit the mark. This editorial leader will oversee a team of Homepage Editors and Associate Digital Editors, ensuring our coverage is sharp, SEO-informed, analytics-driven, and aligned with our distinctive voice.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced digital newsroom, bring strong editorial judgment, and have proven leadership skills managing teams responsible for live news, homepage curation, and headline writing. They will be adept at coordinating breaking news coverage, live blogging timely and accurately, and ensuring readers always see our best work front and center.
Responsibilities:
Oversee daily homepage and digital editorial operations, ensuring we have the right content to reach the largest digital audience.
Work closely with our News Editor and audience team to ensure we are fast, accurate and have compelling content at all times with a focus on growing our audience.
Manage and mentor a team of Homepage Editors and Associate Digital Editors, fostering professional growth and editorial excellence.
Lead live coverage and live blogs for major breaking stories, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compelling presentation.
Optimize headlines, teasers, and homepage presentation using SEO best practices and real-time analytics to maximize reach and engagement.
Coordinate with editors, and visual teams to ensure the strongest possible coverage package for major stories.
Maintain editorial quality and brand voice across all digital platforms.
Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement strategies for audience growth, innovative storytelling, and new content formats.
Uphold and promote a positive, inclusive newsroom culture.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
At least 7 years of experience in digital news management, with a focus on breaking news and homepage curation.
Exceptional editorial judgment, with the ability to make fast, accurate calls in high-pressure situations.
Deep knowledge of and interest in California, national, and global news.
Proven leadership skills, with experience managing editors and producers in a fast-paced newsroom.
Strong understanding of SEO, audience analytics, and headline optimization.
Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and editorial standards.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and levels.
Experience working in a newsroom setting, preferably with both editorial and commercial awareness.
